Default Found my boost leak

Well I finally dove back into the car to get her where I want her to be. Thankfully i decided to try and tackle the alchy lines. In doing so i inadvertantly found a boost leak. Check it out:

Has anyone ever seen one of these procharger intake boxes do this? I mean it's been on there a few years, but I haven't been running but 8lbs.(10 max) of boost through it. Doesn't seem like enough to crack the weld like that. At one point I drilled a hole in the box to run the alchy line when I originally bought it, but realized after the hole was made that it was in front of the MAF so I closed it up. I'm wondering if that hole contributed to the crack?

Regardless I'm curious if any other procharger guys have run into this problem? Are there any alternatives to this box?

Thanks for any advice guys,
Mike Busch

Mine did that same thing about 2 months ago! I just rewelded it and it seems to be fine. If it does that again I think I am going to see how much a custom butt pipe will cost to have made.

There is so much surface area on the plenum that it "oil cans" with boost. Basically the weld can get fatigued over time because the plenum is flexing.

I feel like engine movement contributes as well, the silicone they provide is not very forgiving.

Yea, with stock engine mounts its getting pulled on all the time, plus the boost expanding it all the time, aluminum doesnt like to bend. Weld it up and it will bee good for another few years

Thanks for the advice, I think I'll do what you guys suggest.

One question though, a buddy of mine has a Mondo bybass valve that he said he'd give me if I needed it. I have the crappy old version of ATI's stock bypass currently. Has anyone here mounted a Mondo valve on their procharger setup? How loud are they? Where did you mount it?

I'm hoping it will mount somewhere on this intake box so I can have the joint rewelded and the Mondo valves flange at the same time. Let me know if anyone has advice, or even better pictures, on mounting a Mondo valve.

Thanks,
Mike

I don't know if it would fit but mounting the valve to the plenum would be ideal.

I had the same problem, almost identical! I had it welded all the way across to be safe. Took me a while to find my problem as well, I ended up unplugging the vacuum/boost reference to my BOF, still heard the rush of air and felt around until I figured out it was coming from under the back of the plenum. Good luck with yours.
