What REAL gain w/ported TB and ditching the [screened] MAF?

These are basically mods to reduce the amount of air restriction on the inlet side and smooth the airflow. When you go SD tune you can certainly pull the MAF all together and replace it with pipe/tube to match the rest of your intake path. The TB pretty much the same thing with a larger one offering less resistance to air flow.
So the benefit would be a slight reduction in boost pressure for the same amount of airflow. Less pressure is less heat in the intake chage at a given amount of air. I don't really remember anyone actually taking the time to document this change though.
I'm currently running the LS2 intake and NW 90mm TB, but I haven't gotten around to pulling the MAF yet while I'm working on my SD tune.

One thing I did forget to mention is the electric cutout has actually worked really well for me over the last two years. I run a Corsa exhaust and the opened cutout is usally good for another 2PSI when I open it up.
The car still runs fairly quiet with the cutout open. You'll certainly notice the crispness and snap of the throtle improvments when it opens up and everyone will notice the sound of the turbo spooling up a bit more than when it's closed.

I have no need to replace the MAF with a pipe... I just take it off. My system is draw-through. I need to get my cutout under the car, I know this hooker catback isn't working wonders in the spool department.
Jeff was good to me at CAM, and the car went there because I travel SO MUCH for work (I'm in a hotel now ) that I thought it might get put together quicker if they did some of the mechanical work... but as for the 3-bar tune; that'll be all me

I posted (in the past) on your CCFB board, but it seems like my account (and the forum's content?) kept disappearing or some such ****.... Anyway, my family lives from New Bern to Newport NC and I'm hoping to drive the T/A down around the end of the year/Jan. Do you goto that meet in J'ville on Friday evenings? I was gonna try to show out to that, maybe I'll run into you.

I'm right down the road from New Bern, let us know when you're in town.
It will be nice to hear the car running, saw it at CAM when I was getting tuned.
