Safe Limit Boost on Stock Engine
Safe Limit with Boost
I would like to know what are or could be a safe limit to a stock bottom end... I'm looking into a turbo setup..
I'm heard everything from 500rwhp-600rwhp and then some..
I'm planning on changing the head to lower compression around 9.5-9.9..

I'm probably pushing it now at 550+RWHP so I just had an alky kit installed, high performance fuel pump and tranny cooler (to help the A4 live). I wouldn't go any higher than the 7psi that I'm currently running until I'm prepared to go forged. My faith is in the hands of the excellent tune done by The Vette Doctors of Amityville, NY. We'll see what happens.

Pewtavert- How long or miles have you been running with your set-up prior to the alky kit?
I see you're still running normal compression??
Thanks!
ps do you have any 1/4 mile times...

a stock block at around 7-8 lbs with boost will last forever.
the weak link is the piston ringlands. I wonder if we had stronger cast pistons how much boost we could have gotten out of these motors with no other mods done.

Yup... Nobody's ever busted their stock conrods that I've heard of.
In fact, I believe I've read of one or two BUDGET builds where all they did to the bottom end was change the pistons... CR is still an issue, but for ~10 psi, this would be pretty ******* bulletproof.
