Default Single "16" or dual "12"-what offers the best cooling solution?

I have an 02 Z06 and I'm preparing my car for the summer and the track. Last year a popular mod for all the C5 guys was to replace the factory fans with Spal fans. Now I noticed on the C6's they only run a single fan instead of twins. Now I want to go fast and stay cool so I don't want to add any unneccessary weight-won't a single fan be lighter than 2 fans? I can make up a custom shroud out of aluminum also in no time. Also has anyone heard of Zirgo fans-i think they have a 16" that flows over 3000 cfm-theres also Maradyne as well. One thing i did notice is that hi-numbers are at 0 static-when that number goes up the flow drops-only Spal seems like the higher flowing with resistance.

obviously the dual 12's will cool better because covers more surface area. will one cool it? I think the only way of know is try it if it don't then you can go with two. JMO

IMO one good single with an efficient shroud might do it for you. A well-built shroud ensures max surface area regardless of the fan size.

2 x 12 isnt a huge amount bigger than a single 16"

What sort of airflow are the 12's rated at ??

I seen the Zirgo fans on Summit a while back. Their 3000cfm sounds impressive, more so as it uses far less current than any other fan shifting the same amount of air...
In my mind, something doesnt add up there.
I did ask here, but nobody had any info on them.

As others say, ducting so that all the fans airflow is directed through the core, can make a huge difference to efficiency

Each 12" is 1630 at 0 pressure, the 16 from Zirgo is 3000 so it's pretty close but yes that amp draw got my attention 2. I can make an aluminum shroud with about 1" deep for example and the hole for a 16" fan in the centre-around the fan I can punch louvres for extra flow while the car is moving. Going to a single fan also has a weight savings of 5lbs-there has to be a reason the C6 corvettes went to a single instead of the 2 duals.

and a single will probably draw less current than 2 smaller fans.

A lot of shrouds have flexible holes in them. These allow air to pass esaily while on the move. But when teh car is stationary, also ensure all the work the fan is doing, goes to use pulling air through the rad core itself.

If you could buy the Zirgo and let me know how it works, I'd appreciate it lol

Does that work on the pusher side, too? I'd think that you wouldn't even need to worry about flow on a draw-through setup at speed.

I think it would be very difficult to make such a shroud on a pusher setup
