Best oil for FM turbo car?
I'm thinking of swapping the Mobil 1 10w40 for Royal Purple in either 10w40 or 20w50.
Since it's a Cali car, is there any reason that I shouldn't go with the 20w50? I want to choose the best weight for protection/function of both the engine and the turbo. I spray a little methanol, so an oil that is more resistant to emulsification of the alcohol would be good, too. But I doubt there's much methanol that isn't burnt.
Thanks in advance for your input...

I'm thinking the front mount gets a lot hotter than the rear mount, so the oil's gonna need to hold up to that. Hence maybe the heavier weight.

I was going to recommend the Shell Rotella T Synthetic as well, since you're spraying meth. It is a full synthetic with an additive package approved for long-haul truckers and is available at Walwart for about $15 per gallon. I say since you are spraying because most people change their oil a lot more with meth, so why go for the $11/quart stuff?
You could even go with the straight Rotella non-synthetic, because you can get a 5-gallon pail at Walmart for $35. Every 3-5K miles and you are saving big bucks.

And here I thought that Rotella was just pasta.
What would you guys say if money wasn't part of the equation?
And what about the 10w40 vs. 20w50 question?

Well, it only comes in 15W40 (IIRC). Have to check the bucket in the garage.
If money wasn't part of the equation you could use Shell Helix that Ferrari requires in their Enzo's. Last I saw it was $65 a quart. No BS. After that you get into aviation-rated fluids for jets, but who knows how they perform in our cars...

i assuming that je fluids have to be designed differently to withstand elevation, different combustion mechanics altogether and gravity.
however, i will agree it should cost a pretty penny!!
