Default Auto=SC Manual=Turbo?

I'm looking into forced induction and was wondering if there is any kind of split as to who uses what FI based on the type of transmission.
Reasoning behind the question is that with a manual you can control your rpm's and stay in the boost with a turbo application.
Unlike auto's that are at the mercy of the electronic transmission unless you have a manual valve body.

This is totally new territory for me and I'm reading like a mad man so excuse any misconceptions I currently have.

This is exactly opposite of correct.

Interesting... Once its spooled i can see an auto staying in it more because of the quick shifting as long as you keep it WOT. But from mid RPM you can drop a gear or two in a manual and be in boost right away unlike having some spool time with an auto.

Like I said, its a learning curve that i'm trying to get over.

either way, fill out the poll it could prove to be interesting.

here's how it goes with turbo applications. auto's will be faster because the rpm will always be higher, start to finish, with the right torque converter. you will want to keep the higher ratio's in the rear end because turbo's like to be spooled up for longer periods of time. you will be able to build boost off of the line with an auto, giving you much more power from a dig.

basically, your theory is totally opposite from what actually works better.

sounds like you need to ride in a well built automatic. big stall + built tranny with a shift kit = NEVER being in the wrong gear at the wrong time. Boost will love you if you go that route

i started off being an auto, however it wasnt fun on the street. the truck barely sees the track at all so i wanted more fun. its a blast to drive with the 6 speed. I voted turbo+manual

I voted for Turbo and automatic. I had a 6 speed and with the power of a turbo it will never hook. An auto can build boost and leave the line better. I have a twin turbo with a powerglide trans.

Hopefully i can get a ride in a turbo and SC car this summer.
Yeah my theory was *** backwards. Some of this stuff I think I just have to experience to understand better.

Pin a star on your ***. There is a lot of stuff to read through and I think the concepts are understood and realized better when experienced.

the turbos spool/boost work more when the engine is loaded. i dont know why turbo size maybe?. my turbo talon wouldnt boost in neutral (wanted to hear the blow off valve) and boost slow in first gear but higher gears when the engine was loaded boosted great. i saw an eclipse on street fire and it would blow the blow off in park or neutral and made me wonder about turbo sizes. I think the bigger the turbo the more load u put on the better like big smaller # gear ratio (kind of a win win situation because bigger turbo = more flow/hp and smaller gear ratio more speed!

According to the poll, there aren't very many autos running a SC. Is it preference or is there a technical reason for that?

This poll is pretty pointless, as you will find that all are out there. It all just depends on what you want. My Ford Lightning is S/C and auto and my car used to be S/C and auto, and my last car was S/C auto. I ran 10.40 at full weight on radials at 13 psi boost in it! The only combo that you might not want for a technical reason is the turbo and manual since the turbo has to re-spool after each shift if you don't powershift it. However, they put up huge dyno numbers so alot of guys do that anyway!

(very sarcasticly) surely not... you dont think guys strictly go for dyno numbers do you? not around here?

auto's might not put out the dyno numbers manuals do, but they sure do run a hell of alot harder than the manuals from what i've seen at the strip.

to get all ET out of a manual you have to be a damn good driver and know how to set a clutch....

This is true. My car with an auto runs as good at full weight as 6 speed cars with 150 more rwhp.
