Default LSX = How much Boost?

How much boost can a LS1,2,6 or 7 take? I was going to put an iron block in my truck and stroke it to a 408 then add about 12-15psi using a STS turbo since everyone on the truck forums said go iron block for boost. I would prefer to use an aluminum block to lighten up the truck a bit but wanted to know if it could safely handle the 12-15 lbs I want to throw at it.

Also will all my accesories swap right over from my 5.3 to any LS engine? How about the new L92 engine will everything swap also and will it take the boost?

Thanks, Jimmy

I also thought about the new LSX block but if I am not going to go past 20psi why bother. That engine would be good if I wanted more boost later but for now I just want to push a max of 15psi.

Depends on a lot... Boost is just a level of restriction, but suppossedly they're able to do up to 1,500HP if built up

Just buy a 408 from one of the sponsors. What does that 400ss mean? I have never seen one in the states but when I went to Mexico they were everywhere.

400SS: Marketing threat to make owners think they got a fast truck... they always try to race me on the street... Normal 5.3 thing..

On the real world is just a sticker on the trucks that got the "cali" bed, I don't know how its called..

As long as you put forged internals in whichever block you go with then 12-15 psi is not a problem. 8 psi on stock pistons and rods.

So, on stock pistons and rods you could get away with 8 psi? Is that just a single turbo and you should set twin setups to 4 each?

From what I've heard LS1 block is good to around 800-850 RWHP then the block starts to distort. Some say they cn go closer to 1000RWHP and do it for a while before the block deforms. LS2 is supposed to be good bit stronger. Id say do a LS2 you still get the 4" bore and its plenty strong for what you sound like you want to do.

If you want to go hardcore, I'd go with a LSX. Honestly, it doesn't sound like you are. An LS1 block could handle what you're planning to do, so anything above that you'd be safe. The LS1 block is good up to 1000HP supposedly.

If I were you, I'd be more concerned about your rods, pistons, fuel, and tuning

I have a 4" Callies crank and billet Oliver rods that I was going to use for the 408 iron block along with some Weisco pistons that the engine builder suggested. I was not sure that the alluminum block could take 12-15 psi but since it can I rather use the LS2 than the iron block and save 100-150lbs.

Actual weight difference between iron and alum. is 70-75lbs. If this is just going into a street truck and not any type of racing application just use the iron block you already have.

The engine builder said it was 100+ lbs difference too. Will the LS2, LS7 or L92 bolt right in with no mods? Only the built short block with all my truck accessories and components(intake, headers, timing chain etc.)?

The iron block is going to be stronger, but if you are going with forged internals then you can boost the hell outta eighter, the tune is key no matter what. All your stuff should bolt up some sensors might have to be changed depending on the actual block you do go with.

Why would an LS2 be stronger?

I checked out Exotic and just saw a SLP 402 in both low or high cr. Very good price considering that it comes with a Callies crank, Manley rods etc. plus their is no core fee.
