Default Picked up 75rwhp by removing intake, help.

Took the car to the dyno finally and tried to see what this little D1 could do when pushed on a 402. I have an 8.5" crank running the D1 on a 3.9" pulley on a C5 for reference sake.

We slap her on the rollers and even though it's already 97deg outside at 9am we're hoping for some good numbers.

First run puts down less than I did in the winter on 91 octane!! WTF? I ask my tuner what's up and he says boost got to 10#s then fell to 9#s. I had talked to Bob and he thought my intake might be holding things up so I yanked it off and gained 75rwhp!

So since I can't drive with it off what do I do? Anyone think a blackwing filter would fit directly on the D1 inlet?

Graph comparing the 2 runs.

Have a shop fab up a 4" inlet for the blower, and use as big of a filter as you can fit.
75rwhp says you have a BIG restriction there...

I was hoping to trash the current filter setup and fit one of these directly on the end of the blower.

Think that would work?

Also anyone know what the filter setup for the F1 looks like on a C5?

What brand of air filter? If you have a pos k&n that is dirty that could be your problem, those filters are JUNK when they get dirty! Can you run a large paper filter?

The current filter is a K&N. It didn't seem to dirty but I can clean it.

looks like this, but I have the 8 rib setup. This is just to see the intake design.

Thats a big jump, did you make any other pulls with and without to verify?

Biggest air filter you can fit will work the best, that inlet doesnt look that horrible.

Thanks KP, yeah we put the filter back on and made 75rwhp less again...

I think I'll see if the blackwing filter can fit on the blower inlet and get rid of the other piping and see what happens.

Without the filter setup we picked up 2psi as well which contributed to the increase in power of course.

I pick up quite a bit on the dyno without the filter/hat as well but oddly enough the car runs no better at the track. I've had it on and off a dozen times, trust me if it would make the car run a couple hundredths faster it would be off the car

Its just weird because that C5 one looks a ton better then the F-body one. You should have tried with and without the filter only for grins. 750rw with a D1 is making some good power though. Thanks for posting up the pulley combo also, most people dont do that for some odd reason..

Well that's a good point about the pulleys, weird that they don't.

I'll post my results as I change things around for the forum. What's the most people make on a D1 by chance?

The intake track doesn't really look all that bad- especially compared to the f-body 'hat'. My hat and filter restricted my P1SC setup 90 RWHP and 3 psi!

What did you put on your blower to fix the restriction?

an F1

(and a bigger filter)

the bigger filter alone picked up 1~1.5psi with the P1

I would imagine you will find the filter to be the largest part of the restriction. Bob
