should i invest the money and CNC some 317 heads i have or should i hold that money and invest in some aftermarket cast that provide a thicker deck? Dart, AFR, ETC?

You can run unported heads with stock valves if the budget is not there, but if you look around you can find some good deals on used heads, or even ported OEM castings from places like TSP, TEA, and Patriot.

I thought I read somewhere that the 317s had a thicker deck than the 243/241 and older castings. If that's the case, I wonder how much thicker the casting on an AFR or the like is than a 317?
