Default what stall to go with(I know this is FI section)

Im getting answers all over the spectrum in the AT section so I figured I better ask people here with setups that are close to mine, or at least FI. I have a vig triple disk that im sending in to get freshened up for a 4l65e and get restalled, my quesstion is what stall to go with? the car will be on the street 99% of the time but that 1% i want to be able to crank out some good times. what str would be appropriate for me if I have a choice with the vig convertor and what stall speed more importantly, I dont want to have to rev the **** out of the car just to pull out of my driveway I guess is kind of what im saying. im running 3.50s in the *** end by the way

Yank 3600, checkout their site, they have a chart that indicates what stall they recommend for specific applications.

If you want the right one the first time, call the TC manufacture of your choice and let them build it to your car. To much guess work for everyone to just throw out a stall and STR number specifically for your ride. Of course a generic TC will get the job done, but you may or may not be happy with it. I chose Neal Chance, give them or one of the other pro builders a call and talk to them...My .02

Go higher on the STR if you want a tighter converter for the street. You have to be careful with Vig's with what they advertize and what you get usually vary by 400 rpms.

The pro yank 3400 is a great nice n tight converter for the street, it will work great with that torquey 408.

You don't need a high dollar race engineered Neil chance converter for a street car

Get a Yank PY3400. I had to experiment with 2 more converters before I got it right with the PY3400. This is on a 100 percent street car with no track time. Oh yes 1 more thing: Sell the Vigilante on Ebay.

My point was to make a phone call to what ever TC company, I didn't say to buy a Neal Chance. Just talk to someone who knows what to build. In this case since you want to stick with the Vig and have it refreshed, why not see what they recomend, they might be able to restall it for you as well. They might say with your power you might blow right threw it, I don't know.

BTW, I used the PY3400E and it rocked with N20 in the 500 whp range and was a nice street verter as well. Depending how much power/TQ your making will tell how high it will flash.

Since you have a Vigilante and all you're asking is what to get it restalled to, I would suggest 3000-3200. Vigilante's do tend to stall a little higher than their advertized rating, and of course an engine that puts out more power is going to stall a converter higher than a weaker engine. Bob

I called vig and they sugested 3200-3600, he said that the flash stall off the line will tend to be higher than the actual stall

If the car has the low end power I like a tight stall. I run a 2600 now. I had a PY3400e in for awhile and hated it. It had to rev too high before the car would move and bypassed all the low end torque that was available.

Really??? When I had my pro yank 3400 it drove like a stock converter but when you mashed it it would flash up. I thought it was a great driving converter, just didn't like the shift extensions on it. but then that converter is designed for higher hp applications than my old setup.

Default Yank

I am running the Yank PY3400 right now in my h/c 346, it drives very nice and is definitely a 'tight' converter. Very happy with the driving characteristics cruising it around. I bought it for my Procharged set-up which I have yet to install. It is defintely a street friendly converter, in fact, it is too damn tight for my h/c package I have now (knew that going in) but should work really well with the torque a Procharged engine will produce, especially 400+ cubes, and still have excellent street manners. No high revs pulling away from a stop and good efficiency on the track. Best choice for Procharged 4L65E in IMO.

Maybe because I run such a mild cam (214/224) it makes it feel so loose. Also I'm pretty heavy being a full weight convertible + blower stuff. I like to feel the torque in the 1000-3000 RPM range which is where I am 90% of the time on the street.

I agree. Very tight convertor. Great street maners.

im thinking about going with 3000-3200, assuming it will flash in the 3700 range, I should be making pretty good torque in that range
