Default How to NOT make boost??

Here is my stupid FI newbie question of the day.....

How do I NOT make boost with my setup for initial driving?

I have a JGS 50mm wastegate, straight from the box, with whatever spring they come with. I would like to run my setup at like 2lbs boost right off the bat while I get the bugs of the car worked out. This is a large project with a lot of big changes, not just the turbo added.

Something easy? Am I being dumb?

dont answer that

Thanks!

The lowest boost you can run is based on what spring comes in your WG. (ex. 5psi if you have a 5psi spring)

You might be able to keep the boost very low by not taking the rpm's up. Otherwise a trailor always works for transporting vehicles.

i dont think he means transporting - he might - but i think he's talking about driving the car to try and work out the bugs w/o boost.

What about just removing the spring? Just make damn sure you've got the boost reference line connected.

***EDIT*** The more I think about it, this doesn't seem like such a great idea.***

Maybe plumb everything but the connection to the TB and leave a simple pipe/filter on it to make sure you're OK prior to boost?

Are you going to use an adjustable BOV?

I do plan on driving it and I would like to get the bugs worked out and be able to get into the throttle to make sure everything without boost is good, then slowly work into boost.

just drive it normal, not that hard to stay out of boost

get a boost gage then just drive, watch the gage and control your foot.

I drove mine around for 2 months before it was retuned for my bigger turbo.

i have the smallest spring for a tial 50 mm gate. Its like 2.9 psi. It makes right around 2 pounds so far. Its getting tuned on monday. But i wanted to make sure the car ran decent, didn't blow off ic pipes, got oil everywhere, no leaks, radiator and fans working good. I understand where your coming from, but with your wastegate im not sure what spring you can get, but as said earlier, the lowest boost you can run is the smallest spring you can put in your wastegate.

if you remove the wastegate spring the vehicle should not make any boost because exhaust gasses will bypass the turbo through the wastegate, thus not producing positive pressure.

if the JGS has a sealing ring like the tial's do, remove the sealing ring n thatll do it too,

Removing a charge pipe is a very bad idea, then you have a turbo not pushing against anything and you have no way to keep it from overspinning and blowing up.

Its not a bad idea if you're driving like a normal driver and not beating on it.
Compressor speeds are far far higher at high boosts than just free spinning at a normal rpm.
just keep the load level moderatly low.
