Default Plenum Box Exploded! (Procharger Race Bypass info needed)

My metal plenum box exploded today with 14psi at around 6k.

I guess it was my own fault for trying to use plastic procharger bypass..

Going to weld up plenum box all around since welds from procharger didn't even penetrate the metal and strengthen it up some

I am going to get a procharger race bypass....also going to run twin intercoolers for now, but can I weld the race bypass flange in where the plastic bypass connects? or do I just need to mount it on the plenum

btw....I am tuned in speed density....and think I want to recirculate

guess I answered my own question........but would the bypass be better on the plenum, or after intercooler on driver side?

Mine plenum exploded twice on my old set-up. First time the top split wide open and had it re-welded. Second time the bottom split open where I couldn't see it. The car still managed to make 13psi at the time. I was on the stock bypass valve.

I think I want to recirculate because car is already loud enough and don't really know if there is a big advantage to venting to atmosphere

That's how I plan to run mine. Although it's open to atmosphere.

Since you cracked the plastic one and the alum one, I would take a good look at your bypass valve. I've heard of several people cracking the plastic plenum at higher boost levels, but I don't recall us ever having a problem with it. Let alone, the alum plenum!

The race valve will certainly help you out. Bob

Hey Bob, it definitely happened during bypass...

We are 2/3 to 3/4 done with his 2-bar tune, and this was the first full pull to 14ish psi As soon he as he let off, *POP* and then no boost

Can't wait to put some pressure to this bottom end that you guys put together

Ive seen the plastic ones swell up like a balloon at 16psi

Never seen one blow up, but those welds dont look like they even penetrated enough.

The motors built to take what you throw at it, what pulley you guys tuning with?

SDCE 7.25" crank/ 3.4" blower

Should I go with vent to atmosphere or recirculate (any chance of unfiltered air entering with the vent to atmosphere.....don't think so but want to make sure)

Car also might get caught in rain

I plan on welding flange above driver side intercooler.....that pipe is steel, right?

I will be giving epp a call in the morning to get one ordered

I'm not sure what the size is to be honest, I'm sure David can chime in.

We saw something like 200 kPa at 6-6200RPMS (I forget) which is about 14.5 psi. Any idea where we will end up at boost wise from 67-6900?

He is running Alkycontrol meth (straight meth) and the kit is cranked up That thing moves a lot of meth!

You'll probably see it max out around 16 psi. If the power dramatically falls off for you at some point, try toning down the meth. Bob

I would definitely go with the open (vent to atmosphere) because if you recirculate then you would be recirculating hot air. I would also put the valve between the blower and the intercoolers for basically the same reason, you don't want to heat up the intercoolers if you don't have to.

You will not get dirt in through the bypass as there will always be air blowing out, never in.

Thanks Bob! I don't expect the power to fall off at all, we aren't gonna drown the car, the final AFR will be where it needs to be. At 9.5:1 SCR and 15-16psi on pump gas I think we are gonna need that methanol
