Default ZR1 Head Gaskets for Boost

New ZR1 GM Head Gaskets for LS2 engine? Can anyone think of a reason not to use these - since they were after all designed by GM for boost.

they have a larger diameter head bolt. so i would want to check and see if the dowels in the block are the same size. if not it wont sit exactly where they should. and the bore is 4.06, the stroke is the same at 3.62.

I wanted to bring this back to the table, does anyone know of why these can or can not be used for an LS2?

they sure may work, but as previously posted, the zr1 uses larger diameter head bolts and the locating dowel may also be larger than conventional ls motors. bore is 4.065 iirc for zr1
l92/ls3 head gaskets are 4.085 .051 compressed
zr1 head gaskets is probably around same dimesions as l92/ls3

Whats different about the gasket itself? Not just a typical 3/5 layer MLS?

I can not image any real differences other than the hole of the dowels. I just do not see GM redesigning the wheel here. Slightly modifying yes, but definitely not redesigning.

ZR1 info...
The engine block is constucted of cast aluminum and has the six-bolt main bearing caps common to all LS-x series engines. Additionally, the block has enlarged vent windows between the second and third bulkheads for better bay to bay breathing. During the finish bore honing process, a deck plate is installed to simulate the block distortions when the cylinder heads are secured. The use of the deck plate ensures a higher degree of accuracy and promotes piston ring fit and cylinder head sealing. Sealing the cylinder heads to the block is a stronger four layer head gasket

If the standard 5 layer was sufficient why would GM develop a new gasket, it just seems that this one should be better, or GM would just release a modified bore version of the 5 layer. Just a thought...
