Default Gas fumes from breaded lines???

Anyone ever heard of gas fumes permiating (smelling) through braided lines? I have Russel braided -8 lines on my tein turbo setup. I put gas in today and ran the pumps for 10 minutes.

The garage smells like gas. I can put my nose up to the braided lines and they smell like gas.......

No leaks, Checked all lines and fittings..

This really is really annoying..................please let me know if anyone has ever heard of this .....and is there a fix?

Still trying to figure out why you 'BREADED' the lines???
But no no stronger gas fumes from 'Braided' lines.

Short answer (from Earl's and Aeroquip techs) is fuel additives will break down ANYBODY'S synthetic rubber hose over time. Both are releasing teflon lined hoses to eliminate the problem. Harris Speed Works can make you a custom set (has to be crimped at Harris) of Teflon lined steel braided with a clear coated nylon surface that is pretty trick....

A CPE hose will leak fumes. Try going over and make sure all the NPT threaded fittings are nice and tight, and if you are not using O Ring style fittings you could try the to cut down on some of the fumes. Using a PTFE Hose will greatly reduce any fumes that you get through the hose.

what is CPE type hose? also the other hose you mention above...is that teflon? All the teflon hoses I have seen are not recommended for fuel..

CPE = S.S. Braided Rubber

PTFE = S.S. Braided Teflon

Never heard PTFE hose not reccomended for fuel....

Rubber lines are permeable. In fact that is mainly what causes freon loss over time. Some hose is better than others of course. Russell line used to be made overseas before Edelbrock. Not sure where it comes from now. Aeroquip is made in Arkansas on the same line the aerospace stuff is. Cheaper hose could be more permeable and the OEMs test for this as it is a source of emmisions. A real bad smell though is uncommon.

I've seen this many times, especially with the "low cost", econo line.[The last episode was with the "Econoflex", from Earls] I have also seen it with the Aeroquip on my HEMI car... Not bad, but enough to smell it.
I've not tried it, but perhaps the teflon lined hose would not have that issue.
