If you're just installing the fuel pump kit and not changing fuel injectors or fuel pressure, then the car will run just like it does on the stock pump.

Pretty sure his fuel pressure would be different...most report a higher pressure at the rails after an install, which would skew the tune.

No tune needed. L/s Trims will take care of it.

I was running a Racetronix pump and wiring harness and needed no changes to my tune after the install (I tuned my car with HPTuners). The stock fuel pressure regulator will keep the fuel pressure the same.

Thats what i wanted to hear. When i put this in i dont need to upgrade my injectors right? I heard that the stock injectors are big enough to support my mods. thanks

I wouldn't think it would matter unless you are on the ragged edge of what the stock pump can supply but that is just me thinking. Has anyone verified via wideband the before and after results on this?

Yessir. My rail pressure increased 5 psi after the Racetronix install. Doesn't sound like much, but a deviation of 2+ psi is enough to skew a tune pretty good. LTFT's may compensate for you daily commute, but WOT (read "open loop") will fatten up and could cause a minor HP loss.

At this point, you should get a tune to make sure you're getting the most out of your hardware. You're best bet would be to pick up your own tuning software so you can tweak all the other drivability things a dyno tune will miss.

Do you actually monitor fuel pressure real time (or logging)?

You should be fine with your mods, stock 2002 injectors I believe are 28 lb/hr. They are good up to around 400-450 whp range.

28# injectors usually start running out just before 400RWHP. Mine were running 106% until my tuner leaned it out some but they are still above 95% now I believe at 399RWHP. If you want to be sure and safe, I'd say 350-375 is the max on 28's but many have taken them further.

Thanks for all the imput guys. I think im going to wait for the tune until i get the fuel pump and injectors done. They will charge 500 for one time but he said that he can work out a deal if i need minor adjustments. thanks

I had a manual fuel pressure gauge on the rail and compared the before and after pressures. The pressure ranged between 58-60 psi with the stock and racetronic pump. A 2 psi change in fuel pressure only equates to a 1.7% change in fuel flow on the stock 28.8 lb/hr injectors.

Hmmmmmmm...I know there are some people that report a larger increase in rail pressure. I'll have to keep that in mind in the future. Thanks for the info!

Im just debating on if i should get the tune then put this fuel pump w/ injectors in and get retune. Or just wait until after fuel mods then do the tune. I dont want to waste money.

Thats what i think im going to do. How many of you guys have installed one of these fuel pumps using the trap door method? I was thinking of finding the write up and atempting to do this myself but im not really to familiar with the fuel system though.

If you upgrade your injectors to say SVO 30lb'ers or Delphi/Lucas/Racetronix 42+lb'ers, you have to get those tuned for. Injectors aren't optional. Didn't know if you knew this already.

I plan on installing the 42s since I plan on a small dry shot in the future.

I've read how to do the install on the pump (both methods), but I've never done it myself. Maybe we could meet up and do the install on both of our cars on the same day?

Yea, that would be cool. Im planning on dooing it either in january or march comming up. I was hoping that i could use the trap door method and put injectors in and drive it to get it tunned. Do you think it will be ok to drive it to get tunned on new untunned injectors and fuel pump? thanks

just take it easy on your drive. You'll be washing the cylinders on your way there
