amazing,
friday I ran out of gas and the car wont start.
I checked the relay it's fine. For sure the pump.

OH yeah my a 98 t/a with 61k miles, I'll bet our pumps were getting close to failure anyway and the additional strain of no fuel just went ahead and killed it. My car has the factory pump, yours?

When you run it out and dry.. there is a good chance that it could kill the Pump.

From what I understand, running the pump without fuel will kill it. (If you run out of fuel, put some more in the tank before trying to start the car.)

yeh, running your car out of gas like that usually kills the fuel pumps. grab a new one.

Heres what I think happend to mine:
I tryed to coast along way, I finally coasted into an empty
Kenworth dealer lot and there was a couple guys interested in helping me ( very cool) anyway I forgot to shut the darn key off so 10 min the car is like left there with no fuel and the key is in the run postion.

Pump does not run with the key in the koeo position. It only runs when the pcm primes the system and then after the pcm detects the engine successfully started.

EXACT thing just happened to me last night. My 98 ss ran out of gas and I got it coasted to the gas station. After I filled it, it wouldnt start. Looks like it time for a fuel pump.

My cousin has a 98 sunfire and her car wouldn't start after she ran it out of gas. New pump fixed the problem.

racetronix for a replacement pump.

I always fill at 1/4 tank for this reason.

I also keep a recetronix pump in my parts bin, just in case (still on stock pump)

The pump can burn up over time if you run it with very low to no fuel. Don't forget when you run out of gas you drain the whole line and everything. Turn the key to the on position and let the pump prime the lines then turn it off. Do that 3 or 4 times to make sure the lines and rails fill with fuel then try to start it. If you just try to start it right away there won't be sufficient fuel in the lines and rail and the car won't have any fuel to run off.

Yea, its new pump time. Even running low on gas will prematurely wear them out, i usually fill up with 3-4 gallons left. Plus that way it doesnt seem like im spending as much on gas, lol
