Default Whinning and howling rear

I'm buying a completely stock Z28 from my friend who just purchased the used rearend from a salvage yard because it was whinning and howling. This fixed the problem for about a month. Now it is starting to do the same and I don't know if there is something causeing this or just bad luck. The howling sounds like it is coming from the gears and the whinning sounds like it is coming from the driverside rear. Where do I begin?

Does the noise get louder the faster your going? I would try and start with the axle bearings, they are pretty easy to do, you will need a slide hammer and just some basic tools.

What's the problem? My 12 bolt has howled for years. Still tuff as nails. If I were to rebuild it it'd do the same after another trip or two to the track.

I had someone check it out and yes it is the rear. My plans are for this car is to eventually be running about 400-500hp. What can I do to make a stock 10 bolt last or do I need to find a 12 bolt that will work?

go 9 inch... 12's will start to whine after the abuse a m6 can dish out and can break still with the way a m6 can shock a rear
