You can upgrade your it to stronger part's but it would cost you almost as much as a 12 bolt.

It dosent matter what the hell you do to it. If you launch it alot or do alot of drag racing with any decent tire somthing will brake. If you only use a street tire and get on it once and a while you can get lucky. I looked into it just like you are and figured out it wasnt worth it and saved up and bought a Midwest Chassis Fab 9". hope this helps.

There was a buildup on the camaroz28 forum of a 10 bolt. He spent around $1,200 I believe. Ultimately it depends on your goals. If you have a stock vehicle and are just looking to beef it up a bit then why not experiment. If you plan on adding any power later on in the future just save up for an aftermarket.

You can built up a 10 bolt to be decently strong, but its still limited by its ring gear size, which is only 7 1/2 inches.

If you want to built it up, you'll need Moser axles, a T/A girdle, a Detroit Trutrac, and possibly a solid pinion spacer. That will give you a decently strong 10 bolt.

I have a friend with an 8.5" 10 bolt in his nova and it drags the bumper and runs 8.90's @ 151mph. They built it at the 4 wheel drive shop he works at and they swear that 8.5 10 bolts are just as strong as a 12 bolt.

GN Corporate 8.5 10 bolts will take a ton and ask for more but they are totally different than the 7.5's.

only thing i ever managed to break in a 8.5 10 bolt was spider gears in the open diff on an old 4x4. A strong ring gear, axles, and a spool would make it a very tough rear. but for what that cost me i was able to buy a used truck 12 bolt for like 200 hundred so i just did that. if it is for the truck i would just buy a stronger stock rear and call it a day. 12bolts and 14 bolts can be had all day for 150 to 250, cheaper than building a 10 bolt.

Nope, because our cars need the torque arm mount, and I don't believe any 8.5" 10 bolts came with any provisions for a torque arm.

Someone on here is attemping to make an 8.5" to fit F-bodys, hopefully he will be successful, it would be a nice option.

10 bolts have gotten cheap... If you are set on running one like me just keep a spare handy.
