Default Worth fixing the 10-bolt with 10's in mind?

I'm planning on running 10's this year with nitrous and an automatic. I'll be using my window switch to delay the shot so it's not spraying out of the hole. Should I spend $500 to have the rear fixed?

Depends - how many times do you want to spend that $500 to have the rear fixed?

IMO - upgrade to a 12 bolt (since you're automatic) and be done with it.

Do not do it, this issue has been kicked around about 500,000 times! The 10 bolt will not allow your car to reach its full potential. Get either a 12bolt or 9 inch. I run a 9 inch in my car, and love it.

Put the $500 in savings, run the 10 bolt until it breaks, and purchase a 12 bolt.

dont waste your money on the 10 bolt! when i had my camaro i dumped about 500 dollars a year into the 10 bolt. over the course of 3 years i owned the car i would have been better off just buying a real rearend in the first place. then i wouldnt have been afraid to really beat on the car. it was an automatic. now on my M-6 Trans Am, i just sucked it up & bought a 9 inch for it. i wount have any worries about the rear breaking when i launch it.

Nope...spend $150-$200 on a used 10 bolt and get the car running again, save up and buy a 9".When you put the 9" in sell the 10 bolt and get most if not all of the money you put into it back.

I wouldn't mind spending it once, but I'm going to be pushing a lot more power soon. By the end of this summer I'll be looking at low 10's, unless the motor gives up then we'll be looking at <10 with the replacement motor. Will a Moser 12 bolt support 9's in an automatic?

Hmm...well I have the money to buy the 12-bolt right now. I guess it all comes down to how fast I want to go, and how safely I want to do it. Right now the car needs a differential. It drives, but there is NO two-wheel action, just a whole lot of one-wheel-peel. I'm assuming it's not going to be good to launch the car with the differential acting that way...

I could try selling the 10 bolt if i take it out. It has new bearings, an auburn diff (albeit being worn out), 3.42 gears, and moser axles. Gotta be good for a couple hundred?

idk about the girdle. i have one on my 10 bolt right now. i have 4.10 gears, torsen diff, arp studs, and the girdle. im on my 2nd (going into 3rd since its broken) 10 bolt. first time the spider gears blew out, so i replaced it with a torsen, girdle and studs wer on both. #2 has an inch long crack in the case on the driver side. i havent pulled the cover off yet to see whats left but i doubt its much. if you have the money (which i dont) buy a 12 bolt or 9"
or if u cant quite afford them, go with the rare 8.8 conversion. probably what ill do when i have a constant source of income

Do you have an aftermarket torque arm? If you don't you're going to be needing to buy one to get your car safely into the 10's, as the oem one bends.

The Moser M9 rear comes with a great chrome moly torque arm and transmission crossmember. Here is a link to this rear, which weighs the same as the 10 bolt to boot! http://www.exoticperformanceplus.com...html?item=1324 Bob
