Default 8.5" 10 bolt from a B body Impala SS?

A couple months before i sold my 96 Impala SS i bought a new eaton posi with new bearing, instal kit, and 3.73 gears. My question is, would it be budget friendly and practical to buy a junk rear end from a b body then cut and weld all the brackets from the camaro 10 bolt to the impala 10 bolt. While on my forum no one ever complained about the eaton posi blowing on there 10 bolts. Just a thought before i decide to put it up for sale.

What year Camaro? The 8.5 10 bolt is actually a decent rear end. I have been running mid 10's for about 10 years on mine. Did crack 7 of the 10 teeth on the pinion after about 7 years of abuse. You would probably have a lot of difficulty making it work on a 3rd or 4th gen. Mostly b/c of the torque arm, plus the width will be different.

Its for a 99 SS. I figured the torque arm would be a PITA. But then what do we do for Dana 60 rear ends?

The Dana 60? We buy one with the torque arm mount made as part of the casting from Strange. It's a shiny new axle, not a used one, and Strange calls it an S60.

You could purchase the S60 housing bare but buying all the individual components to place inside the houseing may be pricy.

Yeah I want to kick GM for putting the crappy smaller 7.5" in these cars.

I think they did it to save gas mileage. I hate those stupid things also. I have gone through 2 10-bolts, 1 in my 96 V6 bird and another in my 2000 Formula, and I have a hunch I will be going through another one before too long. If this Jasper rear goes that's in my Formula now, I will probably go with something a bit stronger

My 10 bolt commited suicide Friday night, I got it to limp home but it sounds bad. I was thinking, why not a 8.5 carrier/lsd out of 88-98 Chevy truck and have the 30 spline axles cut for it? Would the carrier fit in the housing?

^^ not at all.

You have the 7.5/7.625, 8.2,8.5, the bastard Olds rear (12 bolt cover and 10 bolt carrier), etc

Hmmm, I'm sol then lol I don't see the point in rebuilding this 7.5" now and don't want to spend $2K on a rear end... Decisions Decisions...
