Default Posi not working......

Hello guys....
Since I am a new f-body owner now as 4 months ago, I have slowly noticed a few things about my car that needs some attention. I have a 2002 z28 with 63,000 original miles. It was purchased from the original owners whom were an older couple....well, older then me. He was a car guy and did most of his own wrenching. The original 2:73's were replaced with 3:42's. I now notice that it seems to be only turning the right side......and is acting like a one legger. What do you advise I check first??? If it matters, the car is a A4.
Thanks in advance.....
Mark~

Most likely its the clutches worn out in your pos.unit. Replace the clutches & steels and you should be good to go. and add the limited slip additive

I wonder if I would be better off putting in a rebuilt g80 or an Auburn. The cost of parts my also be on the high side too. I have never had a rear end apart except to change out the fluids..........

Most pos.units new is between 300 to 400 bucks, and clutch kits are around 90 to 110 bucks and very easy to install. You dont even haft to remove the carrier ,just pull the axles and the spider gears and stack the clutches on each side , reinstall the spider gears, springs, axles c-clips and and cross pin.

Does anyone know if there is a Post on How to replace the Clutches in the Torsen 7.5-7.6 rear end?? I now have a one legger and I do not know why....hmmmmm. I bought the car this way. Would NOT adding the limited slip fluid cause the torsen to NOT lock up??? If I need to replace the clutches, where would I find these parts. I need to google more...hmmmmm....
Thanks in advance.....

Torsens dont have clutches and they dont need posi additive. They are a full gear driven posi.

Basically from what I have heard if torsens one wheel peel then they are broken internally and there isnt much you can do with them except swap in another posi. Some have rebuilt them but I dont really think its worth the time and effort since they arent that great of a posi to begin with. For the record though, my torsen has been perfect even under heavy abuse. Lucky I guess.

you could buy another rearend out of a 6spd 4th gen that has 3.42 gears in it, from a junkyard for about 250 and just change the whole rearend out, well thats what i did any way, it only took me about 2 hr to do of course i had a few beer brakes in between wrenching ha ha but it would prob cheaper than buying a posi unit and all the other goodies.

My T/A came with the Thorson and they are junk, I cracked mine right down the center,I believe the Comaro came with the Auburn pos.unit witch has clutches in them and are much stronger.

Yes it is very common that the torsen housing cracks under hard abuse, I have seen numerous threads with this being the failure issue. However, only a few LS cars got the Auburn as an option, majority got torsens. I believe the Auburn was an SLP option, so if your car didnt go to SLP, you could not get it.

If its a GM Gov-loc I have heard to stay away from them bc they suck. I have no personal experience though.

Your best bet is to call some local places and see if they can repair just the posi itself. They are rebuildable to my knowledge.
