Default S60 cost and weight advantages to a spool?

I've been working on getting my rearend plans together and doing some research. I've decided to go with an S60 with 4.10's and spool, it's beefy and plug and play.

Can this be optioned to be assembled and shipped with a spool?
What are the weight advantages compared to the stock 10 bolt?
And will this be cheaper than ordering with a standard diff. or locker?
I'm in the process of getting rid of ABS, will it be cheaper this way also?

Thanks,

Look this up under my name Ive posted all this

I saved 32.8 I think was the number going to a spool over the truetrac in my s60. And it was 196 with the TT, them 10bolt was 150 with the same parts/fuild. So its not that much more weight with the spool.

dose think its any cheaper no abs. the s60 case has the hole for the mid mount sencor if your 3channle. I htink I just have a plug on mine form stange dont remebed really. But had this alum adaptor plate on the alexs, then the stock VSS rings pressed on them. They get in the way to change wheel studs. and weight a little so to took them off, when I re,mved the abs off the car. but price I dont see it changes, they dont charge you eighter way abs or anything. I htink the TT was more, I forgot the standard diff, its listed if you look it up. The spool I htink you get like 40-60 off, over the "standard" diff.
get the slum cover for the back...

Thanks,

the standard setup is the 35 spline truetrac diff, which is plenty strong.
the S60 will be quite a bit heavier than the stock 10 bolt... upwards of 50+ pounds.

it can be ordered with a spool and no abs, both of which will be less cost. Pm or call me for more info and a quote.

So what I'm understanding is that an S60, with a spool and without ABS isn't that much more than the stock 10 bolt.

Seems like a save a few bucks on it too.

if 50 pounds or so "isn't that much" to you then you're in good shape. The S60 is a awesome rearend as far as a direct bolt-in and cost, but it is a bit heavy in most people's eyes.

If you're going to run a spool, why not a 12-bolt? Isn't that even less expensive?

Both strange 12-bolt and S60 are "bolt-in" units that require no to minor modifications. The 12-bolt I've seen it be a bit more expensive than the s60. Check out the sponsors for price comparison.

Well, what would you guys go with?

Roots blowers with air to water intercoolers are heavy as hell!

I'm concerned about weight and strength, thus going with a spool, and it would be nice to not compromise too much strength by going with a 12-bolt over an S60.

12-bolt should be plenty strong with a spool yeah?

I have plans to really put the wood to it.

I would go with an S60. But If your concerned about strength and weight and price is not a big factor, go with a fabricated 9-inch.

Nah, already have a UMI torque arm, so need something compatible with that, minus a little grinding. I also have bolt in relo. brackets. It's minor, but important that I keep those for adjusting my instant center.

I do most of my own work, so plug and play is important to me.

S60 or strange 12 bolt it will be.

I would go with a s60. I've heard so many problems that develop with the 12-bolt in terms of noise, differentials breaking. But I dont know know much about spools.

There is no diff to break with a spool. As far as noise - non-existent, but then again if you're contemplating a spool, it isn't a street car anyway.

bang for the buck you aren't gonna beat a S60. equipped with a spool it won't be too heavy and for sure bullet proof. the Strange rearends are designed to be a direct bolt-in and no mods required, will accept most anyone's torque arm. call pr pm me for a quote, or if you have any questions about anyone's rearend for a f-body.

What size are the axle tubes on the s60?

What are the stock axle tube sizes also?
