with enough cutting and welding, sure. but you have to make sure you get the brackets in the exact position or they will cause alignment and othe problems.

my buddy made a early 80's or late 70's 9 inch out of a truck work in his 98.

With time and the right equipment you could make anything work. Just make sure the length is enough. Most likely you'll want to narrow anyway, so a bit shorter might be ok but you need enough length to be able to cut the tube ends off, and weld on the appropriate bracketry for your disk brakes.

You are definately going to need to build coil spring mounts, LCA brackets, and do something with the tube ends to mount your brakes.

You are also going to have to make up something to mount your torque arm, unless you go to a different suspension setup.

Cost isnt going to be the problem, but you'll have to be a decent welder / fabricator. But you should be able to look at your existing 10 bolt and figure out what you need to make.

maybe some, but the 12 bolt has larger axle tubes than the 10 bolt, so a lot of them wont fit without some grinding etc...

I would recommend not doing this, its going to take more money and metal work to get it to fit instead of just going with a Strange 12 bolt or such. I wish you luck if you were to try instead.

if he can weld and has access to a narrowing fixture, he wont have more than a few hundred in it at most.

OP can buy the ends from Mos and the TA bracket from Currie, take time and end up with a good setup.
My son did one and I chk the camber and toe on a Hunter hack eye and both were were good, closer than most OE settings

Sounds good i figured it would be nowhere near the money for a strange or other aftermarket one.

Just buy a bare 12 bolt housing from one if the mfgr's and install everything from the other rear. If you start cutting and welding on the axle tubes without using a jig don't be surprised when it's no longer straight.

That's probably the best advice yet. Might cost more $$$ up front, but you'd probably save some time vs all the fab work you'd have to do. Then you can sell that bare Chevelle 12 bolt rear for some extra $$$ anyways.

Exactly. It would fit well under my Lemans. OP just needs to decide if he wants to use the old axles and have the housing built to that width (he could get wheels with the right offset to correct that). Or go with the stock width and buy new axles.
