Ok, now im more confused. I just found out that my rear end was originally suppose to take a 1310. So why doesn't this u-joint fit???

Im going to post some pics in the morning. But does anyone have actual specs/dimentional drawings on u joints?

Oh and i will be taking it to a shop, to get it cut/balanced/ and proper u joint installed. But the only one that does aluminum locally is an hour away, and closed on weekends. So i want to sort it out first. Plus i like learning new things!

Found this in another thread from 2006:

Ok ... I finally found that the stock ujoint is called a Saginaw 3R or somtimes referred to as S44 ...
I took some calipers out and measured my bearing caps and they measured bigger than 1310, and now i found that they equal out to what the 3r caps should be.

Im going to measure the size of the u joint on the stock c4 driveshaft i have outside and see if its a 1310 as i was told. If so i need a 3r to 1310 conversion joint.

As the original poster has discovered, the stock joint is NOT a 1310 - it is a Saginaw 3R.

Thanks for the confirmation!

Next question is, can a regular outer clip u joint fit the shaft since its originally made for an injection u joint?

No, you need a spicer 5-3147 , outside clips are NOT 3r series

Is it an inside clip then? Only options are outer clip, inner clip, and that melted plastic stuff right?

thanks.

I actually need a conversion joint that goes from 3r to 1310, so im guessing i need a spicer 5-3022x?

The pictures of the conversion joint show it including 4 outer clips, is there a grove in the original drive-shaft to install the clips? I might bust out the torch and removed the stock u joint and see what i find. Im sourcing out a spicer 5-3022 loacally now.

Thanks,
Marcello

Just for more info, i found some part numbers that im 99.9 % sure on!

Spicer 5-3022x
Neapco 3-3130

For autozone just add A DL at the end of the neapco part, its relabeled as duralast.
Advance just has it as neapco 3-3130, but you have to search with google, using the advance site doesn't bring it up. Plus its much cheaper at advance, and its in stock vs special order at autozone.

If the vette 44 is early then you need the 5-3022, if it has no tabs on the end yoke then you need the 5-3147.

Both joints come with the corresponding clips.

Bought the neapco 3-3130, fits my yoke, and is the same dimentions as the 3r. Have not installed it, going to leave that up to the shaft shop.
