here is my reason for asking, I just bought what I was told is a strange 12Bolt... The housing is certainly bigger than my stocker but I just thought the axle housing would be bigger! But when I was installing my sway bar I used my stock say bar mounting u bolts???
Thats when I was starting to guess my so called 12bolt purchase? Did I get taken?
Are the axles the same size as stock axles? Or are they as big and as strong as the newer strange axles?
You say that early strange tubes are 2 5/8".... did they use smaller axles?

Everything is the same, just the axle tube diameter is smaller. My guess is Strange was possibly getting the tubes with the mounts and spring perches already welded on from GM. I've talked with some people at Strange who were not aware of their 12 bolts having stock diameter tubes, but then I called again and asked a different person and was told it was an early version. Not a big deal, the tubes may not be as strong as the 3" OD ones, but you still have the same axles and diff assembly as the newer ones.

Thanks for all the info, I was just feeling a little scared of my purchase, is there anything I can do or buy to help the tubes or is it something I should not worry about, Im ready to move on from being scared of breaking my rear!

well IDK what people consider "lots of power" or traction. With nitrous on the dyno I made 535hp with 580tq stock 6sp with center force clutch. Im happy for now with that. I Now have that 12bolt,BMR: subframes,Chromolly adj TQ arm, tranny mount that relocates the TQ arm, adj lower control arms with lowering brackets. So traction we will see. Its time to beat on it!
