Default Anyone running 3.73 gears?

Hi all, I may have the option of exchanging this new Motive 3:90 for a AAM 3:73. I don't want the 4:10 for my style of driving, anyone using 3:73 with an M6 please let me know what you think. Thanks, Les...

Since you've got an M6, I'd just go ahead and go with the 4:10 gears.

I have an A4 & an A3, so I didn't go any higher than 3:73 on my cars.

I know what you are saying, but I already find 1st through 4th much shorter. Thanks anyhow

Right on, and I agree that there is room to play with the M6 if thats your driving style. I like to have fun shifting till just over the speed limit, too much to lose if I get busted! The 3:42 was lazy and the 3:90 wants you to push it harder, can't imagine having a leisurely drive with 4:10s. Also looking forward to a quiet gear set, thanks, Les...

3.73s here. It really doesn't do it for me. 4.10s should be the minimum for m6 in my opinion. I really want some 4.56s and a spool when funds are available.

3.73's here. I like them because they're better than stock gearing, yet better mileage than a 4.10. Stronger too, because of the bigger pinion.

I have 3.90's....I ran into the limiter in the 1/4 with 4.10's @122.6 mph. My 60 is even better with the 3.90's. Some day I'll try some 3.73's. I picked up 2mph goin to the 3.90.

3.73s are nice.. for my setup I wish I went with a little more, 3.90 would have been perfect I think.

Default AAM 3:73s from Jaws

Just a follow up for feedback, Motive 3:90 swapped for AAM 3:73. Backlash was set at .005 as the run out was .004, he did not want them too tight (spec is .003 to .005). Gears are quiet with some low pitch on decelleration only, quite during acceleration and cruise were it counts. I have only 50 kms on them but they should get a little better. Motives are going back to Jaws for warranty, they asked for a pattern and the setup, hope it works out as my $80 to ship them, Jeff has been excellent to work with so far. Hope this is of help, I also have to say that for my style of driving I like 1 through 4 better and it settles nice in 5 and 6. Thanks for the support, Les>>>

I've been kicking around a gear change. I have not gone to the drag strip for fear of blowing up the stock rear, but I do road race.

The stock 3.42's are a d o g coming out of the corners and I an trying to decide between 3.73 and 3.90. In the straights the 3.73 would hit the shift light set at 6000 right at 125mph which would be about right, where the 3.90's would have to run up to 6300 to get there, or add in another shift, just to shift it back down.

I'm now debating a 12 bolt so I can go to the drag track and I'm up against similar issues with keeping it in 4th through the qtr with a 75 shot and staying around 6000 rpm's for longevity.

Me thinks for what we use the car for primarily, we might be happier with the 3.90's, as I also have a set of dr's that are 28" if the 26" are too much, this is also an M6 with 410rwhp n/a.

OP-give us a little more feedback on your opinion of 3.90 vs 3.73 and how you drive the car. thx!

Well I just got it home before the snow but the first thing I look for is how it behaves in traffic. I found the 3:42 lugged in traffic and I had to feather the clutch to pull away. The 3:90 had me between 2 and 3, now I can idle in 2. I now get decent pull by shifting around 3,700, before it was 3,500 vs. 3,800. We are in winter so I can't stomp on it but I like the spread better, the 3:90 made me shift at the torque peak, 4,000, and it didn't feel right unless I took it to 5,500? As if there was not enough load, I can see that being the case if you were racing. At 100 km in 5= 1,800, same at 120km in 6. The difference is only 100 rpm? It just feels better!

Thx for the feedback. I had an ssr truck with the 6 spd and ls2 and I swapped from the 3.73's to 4.10's and liked it around town-heck everywhere much better for the reasons you mentioned.

We drive the camaro occansionally on the street and a few road trips, but the whole idea in purchasing it was to race it regularly at the road course and occasionally in the 1/4 mile.

I am just wondering if the 3.73's would leave me wishing for more coming out of a turn in the road course vs the 3.90's. That is my biggest need for lower gears and I guess I can always up shift, run it up a few hundred rpm's or worst case at the drag track put the 28" tires on.

Thanks again for your input!

I would say it depends of the road coarse your on. Once your moving gear is'nt a big deal....above 100mph the 3.42's may actually be better.

If you ran the 28 inch tire, what would your gear ratio come out as? It would raise the overall ratio, so if you are running 3.90s what would you have? Thanks
