Whos running 3.90s?
I've been hearing good things about the 3.90s and want to give them a try. I currently have 2.73s, plan on finding a decent used 3 series diff and putting it in my 10 bolt with a 4000 stall. So who's running 3.90s? And please no buy a 12 bolt comments

I can tell you this..I did the 2.73 to 3.73 swap last year..what a difference..huge sotp gain....and juusstt enough tolerence for dd.. now a 3600 stall this spring.. With 2.73s at 70mph I was at 1900rpm. With 3.73s at 55mph, I'm now at 1900rpm..3.90s, You do the math.
You'll be happy with either one jumping from 2.73s, but I don't see the point of going any higher than 73s...it's alittle overkill imao.

I will be installing the 3.90s in my a4 car in the next week or so. I have the 4k stall in it already. I will report back with my thoughts. One other thing is I have a 28in Dr on the car .

If you are running stock 26" and hit the freeway a lot I'd stay with a 3.73.
In fact for what you gain if I had to do it over again I really like the 3.42's in the A4. Perfect for the street/strip imo and mpg didn't take much of a penalty.
I have 3.91's now and with a 4000 stall and a loud exhaust its loud all the time, if you cruise under 70mph then its not bad, but atleast in my car it really starts to wind up at 70+ and mileage suffers quite a bit. (atleast it covers up the gear noise )
My car is a toy so I don't really car, but if it was my main means of transportation I might stay with a 3.73 tops. Again, only my opinion.
Stalled auto's don't gain much from a gear swap at the track either, from a 2.73 it sure feels a heck of a lot better and I would change those, but a 3.23 to a 3.90, your lucky to see a tenth all things the same.
