S60 -Vs- 12bolt -Vs- 9"
Ok it is getting close to time to order the Beefy rear end for the Turd.
Thus far I have been leaning to the Dana S60 W/ 35 spline spool, 4.10 street gears, standard 1350 pinion yoke, stock backing plates and no abs.
the reason I have been leaning this way is from what I have read it is plenty strong enough and quieter than the 12 bolt or 9". Is there anything I am missing or should know?
also will I need a custom drive shaft if I get the "U-Joint Conversion"? if so should I just go with a strange or is there a better option?
I also plan on picking up some 15" rims for the Hoosiers I acquired and maybe a line lock/ abs delete and a launch control. dose anyone offer discounts for larger purchases? I am obviously going to be looking for deals on used stuff but am not completely against buying new during the tax sales if I can get a deal or just cant find any quality used parts
Thanks in advance

Auto or 6spd? I like the S60 myself thats why I bought one. 10/12 bolts are fine for auto cars but for a 6spd I would only put in a 9" or S60. If your buying new its stupid to buy a 12 bolt when they are the same or more money than a 9" or 60. As far as the 9" vs 60 there are pros and cons to both. The 9" is lighter, you can set up the gears on a bench, parts are very common as most gearheads use them. The 60 has a huge 9.75" ring gear, but its heavier than the 9". I went with the 60 because I didn't want to have to look at Ford **** everytime my cars on a lift, I know its an aftermarket casting but I just don't want Ford **** on my car lol.

For what you are going to pay for a S60 I can get you into a spooled MWC fabricated rear end that comes with a torque arm and cross member and will end up weighing less than a S60 and even weigh less than your stock 10-bolt by 20 pounds.
As far as gear noise the s60 usually doesn't make any less or more than a nine inch. The nine inch is generally known as a noisier rear end but it isn't that bad. Now the 12-bolt on the other hand used in a torque arm situation is a different story. It isn't the 12-bolt that is an issue until you put a torque arm it.
We can put together a Line lock kit also if you are looking for one. For discounts on other items we do offer great deals on our in house products when someone buys a rear end from us. Our LCA, PHB, and ARB prices are extremely low with a purchase.
Now to the S60 or any after market rear end purchase you need to order the correct length drive shaft. If you are planning on putting a spool in your vehicle it is telling me you are looking to drag race and by you mentioning Hoosier tires you plan on doing that drag racing on a sticky tire. The stock drive shaft will be your weak link for sure and the damage a broken drive shaft causes will be way worse than buying a good drive shaft to begin with.
Hope that helps some and if you have any more questions just let me know. We do sell the S60 also if you have questions about it as well.

We have used the 12-Bolt, 9" and S60, I would recommend any of them.
I personally have the S60 in my car now and like it a lot, there is no noise and it is bullet proof. I have worked with a Moser a lot too and their rear ends are very nice.
For a decent amount of street use a 12-bolt would be just fine and like mentioned a spool on the street wouldn't be best.

The spool discussion could go on for days. If I have a vehicle I want to make go fast in a straight line I put a spool in it and move on. I daily drove a car for five plus years with a spool in it when I was younger. Not in the winter time of course, all though I did have a buddy with a 3rd gen that had a spool that drove his year round.
What is nice is there is now more options that can take the abuse of drag racing and still be street friendly. With the nine inch version of the S-trac & a Wavetrac you can have the best of both worlds. Their only down fall is they do cost a little more and if you like to cut weight out of your vehicle they do weigh a little more than most differentials.

I disagree with shitty mwc customer service. I have talked to them on the phone several times and they have been nothing but awesome to talk to everytime. We spent 45 minutes talking about coil overs for my car one day. Yes I have to wait a bit for a rear end but the quality of work for the small price I paid is worth it.

May I inquire why it is you couldn't wait? Was this your DD and you needed it to get to work or something?
OP, good call with MWC.

My advice as others will agree.....make the call in advance of when you're ready. If you know the balance due will not be a problem when it comes due, at least get a deposit in and your name on the list. If you wait until too late, you may not be getting it closer to fall. I put my order in last month so I know it's good to go this spring.
So far the customer service has been golden. When I first called to order I thought it was going to be 10-15 min to go down the option list and make choices. The call was like 40 mins! No shop is perfect, I voted with my money.
