Default how long do you have to break in a new rear diff

i have a set of new gears and i havent put them in due to i have to get the car finished programmed and dynoed. so my question is how many miles do i have to put on the diff befor its done breaking in? or can i just go up on the dyno with new third member no break in?
im doing a mini tub and the 9" has to come out to do it and i figured i might as well just switch the third member out why the rear ends out of the car.

looks just like the one we put in a few months back........

after install,i ran it on jack stands for 5-10 minutes & then drove it around the block for a few miles & parked it.

a few weeks later on the next drive...... was about 10 easy miles & parked it again for a few weeks because of weather.

3rd trip a few more weeks went by because of weather again.........
i put about 15-20 easy miles & parked it.

4th trip i finally gave it a little gas.....5th alot more gas & so on.

yukon 4.56 gears on a 35 spline spool with the yukon bolt thru case & MT ET streets....
i am very happy with how quiet it is!!!!

i think they call for 3 easy heat cycles before going ***** to the walls.
good luck!

I took it easy for 500mi and have had no problems in over 3k miles. Here's a link for proper gear break-in:

I did 3 heat cycles and 500 easy miles before I hammered it.

Put it in the car and drive it. If it's quite, you are good to go. There really is no reason to "break in" a gear set. However, if you put a new limited slip differential in it I would be easy on it for a bit until the clutches have time to soak up the limited slip additive and set into the steels.

Just as long as you break the rear end in when you buy a new car. It's always a good idea to drive a few hundred miles easy just to see if anything is wrong. But not really a necessity. Drag racers make full power passes with no break in at all.

also a lot of them don't use an actual differential but still, what needs broken in? If you could, explain to us what driving lightly does as opposed to driving hard.
