Opinions on what gear to run?
First off, I have a 1999 Camaro ss with a six speed manual. It comes from the factory with 3.42 gears. My car is completely stock. I'm looking at building the car enough to where it's still daily drivable, and not strictly for dragging.
With that in mind, I was wondering what type of gear I should get? I'm also going to be doing a complete rebuild because the rear end leaks in some spots.
Just looking for advice? I searched around a bit and can only find info pertaining to what type each gear is and technical information. What gear should I go with you think?

most guys on here will say 410 and that is a good choice but i went with the 390 that motive makes and couldnt be happier.First gear still has some usable range and the gear it self is a little stronger than the 410,but either way how do you plan on driving the car will determine the best gear.

Lost almost 2MPG because of it. Before the swap I was getting 27MPG on the highway, now its 24-25MPG. Overall average went from 23MPG to 20MPG. When you drive 600 miles a week, **** adds up. Plus I've been to the track once since I've had the gear swap, which was back in 2007ish.

ive had 4.11 and 4.30, also put 3.90s in for a friend of mine. 4.11 is best all around imo. i run 4.30s now and do lots of highway driving. 22-23mpg on my last 350 mile trip for a car cruise not trying, 75-80mph, a couple burnouts, & alot of screwing around. 4.11s are better for daily driving.

I daily drive 4.11s in my Moser 9". They are plenty streetable. Just got back from a ~3000mile total vacation this week. Still have great gas mileage.
If you are on stock cam, and plan to stay that way, I'd just do 3.89/3.90s. BUT, stop thinking the 4.10s are for drag racing only. That's saved for the 4.56s
A 40mph roll is a stretch with 4.10/4.11s. If you start in 1st, it's just a blip and you immediately shift. 2nd in 40 is a hair too low. A 30 roll is great in 1st.

I went with 4.10s. They make a funner street car in my opinion. There's nothing like banging gears like crazy when you want to and they make a world of difference. Drivability is there aswell. I never bothered looking at my mpg difference. That's for suckers :p . (Weekend car)

For a car your just going to drive around and aren't concerned about squeezing the absolute most fuel economy possible out of it I would do 4.10s. They should have came from the factory with them. I got 25mpg all interstate in my cam only car. The Camaro in my sig. At 75 with stock height tires your still only doing 2k. 373s are 80 and 3.42s are 90. I would do 390s at least. My Camaro also averages 19-20 and I live in the mountains.
