clunk/shudder in rear,only in overdrive
This one has me a little stumped, car is 98 ws6 a4,I am getting a single loud clunk/shudder in the rear under mild acceleration while cruising in overdrive only.it doesn't happen any other time in any other gear.thought it could be u-joint or torque arm/bushing but it only happens in overdrive under acceleration.have looked everywhere but couldn't find anyone with the same problem.would love to know what the ls1 guru's think.would a bad rear diff be the culprit.also the engine bogs down for a second

Is this something other than the converter locking up
and maybe bumping the soft parts?
Because rear end only knows about road speed and
shaft torque, has no clue about what gear you are
in.
