Default Differential advice

I own a 2000 NHRA Pontiac Firebird Trans Am LS1, recently the differential had been leaking and making a noise. Everyone I've had look at it tells me I need a new one. Where would be the best website to go to order one? I'm looking for 3.73 ratio or 4.10 ratio. I don't know the difference between higher or lower numerical carriers. I also don't know how many teeth to go with.

Are you wanting to stick with a 10 bolt or do you want something stronger? I have a 12 bolt that I love but a s60 with a spool would only set you back about 2k.

I just recently bought the car so I'm still learning about it. Its a 6-Speed with a stage 2 clutch making roughly 400hp. I'm not sure on the torque. I would just like to have a nice ride with the ability to kick the *** end out if I want. Whatever I get I need to know its going to handle the torque and power.

Stay away from a 10 bolt then, unless your adding more hp to it in the future any of the 3 should do you fine. 12 bolt is probably a cheaper option. Don't get a spool, some of the less expensive rears come with spools that are tough as nails but not good on the street. Im not experienced with different setups but I love my strange 12 bolt.

I'm sure that would do great, should be pretty similar feel to stock. I went with this cause its supposed to take a beating and last forever, I like it but the posi might ride better.

Doesn't have to be posi to be safe and good on the street. Watch this video to understand the benefits of a helical gear differential.

Which differentials would you recommend for a 2000 Trans Am 6 Speed Manual with a stage 2 clutch making 400 rhp?

What are you doing with the car? Drag racing, track racing, or daily driving?

Right now its just for daily driving. They are putting a drag strip close to my house next year, and I was thinking about testing my luck.

If your car has ABS and traction control, the Trac-Loc is a good way to go. You can't go with the Trac-Loc if you have just ABS, in which case I'd go with the Truetrac. Bob
