Default MP GM7.5-390 - GM 7.5 & 7.6 3.90 Motive gears?

Hey guys. I'm looking into buying gears for my 10 bolt. I have been reading a tonne of old threads on gears. From what I was reading, the 3.90 motive gears gmxxxxx were discontinued and the Orange box g8xxxxxxx were all we could order. I found the blue box motives at jaws I believe.

http://www.jawsgear.com/mp-gm7-5-390...nd-pinion-set/

Are these the right gears for my 98 Trans Am? They don't list them as fbody parts, I think they are listed as gm truck gears. Are all gm 7.5" gears the same?

GM 7.5 and GM 7.625 are for the same applications. The F bodies got the 7.625 gearsets but all other parts in the rearend are the same as the 7.5. The only actual 7.625 gearsets are the 2.73,3.08,3.23,& 3.42 that were installed by GM in the F bodies. All aftermarket gearsets are 7.5.
The S series trucks and blazers also used the 7.5 rearend and 7.5 gearsets.

So I can definitively buy those bad boys in short, all aftermarket gears for 7.5 are the same.

3.73s' and 4.10s' from an S10 will fit as long as carrier series is the same. S10 3.73s' and 4.10s are for a series 3 carrier. Since your profile indicates an auto tranny, you could have 2.73s'(2 series carrier) or 3.23s'(3 series carrier). If you have the 3.23s',they will 'fit',but if you're discussing a used set out of an S10 chances are you'll never get them to run quiet as they already have an established wear pattern. If you have 2.73s',no they will not fit and you would need a 3 series carrier.

Could also buy a spacer to make them work.

fortunately that never happened to me. my first foray into a rebuild was a GM 8.2 which has 3/8-24 right hand. my next one was a GM 8.5 that has left hand but caught/noticed the new bolts were left hand before disassembly was started. learned to search info after that.

I will be starting my first rebuild in a couple of weeks. I wasn't able to find blue box 3.90s so I went with blue motive 3.73s. My 3.42s took my abuse with almost no bearing preload so the 3.73s should last me a long time as long as I install correctly.
