Default Well ****...

After 750 miles on my rear rebuild, it sounds like the backlash on my rear is somehow incorrect...

I have entirely babied this thing up until the 700 mile mark, where I only have once been rough on it... the issue came up days after this and driving on it several times after, to which I receive this god awful whirring sound that turns into a howl over 35mph.

The only thing that is different is that this past Tuesday I filled my tank (I generally only fill up to a half-tank), I know Richmond gears run noisy, however this is far from normal. How fucked am I?

My gears make a very similar noise, and have since about 5-600 miles after the gear install also. I don't have the same gears though.

Did yours all of the sudden start making noise out of nowhere?

My car is completely straight piped with the inner shift boot missing so it can be heard better, it's loud as ****...

They shouldn't be that loud, regardless of the brand. Did you drain the fluid and look for metal? Do you have a magnet in your diff? Did you check both coast and drive patterns?

I have not drained it yet, I had a TA Performance cover thrown on at the last second, so I am unsure if that has a magnet in it.

Coast vs Drive patterns does differ, it is significantly louder while in gear and the throttle being pressed. It seems to also vary when I go over bumps in the road... I am thinking that the driveline angle is not correct.

Mine is silent on decel, until like 10-0 mph. And under wot it's not noticeable, at part throttle though... Super loud.

Oh yeah that could do it, especially with that much suspension components changed, it doesn't take much to throw it off.

Rear mounted blower, I am going to have to remember that one

I still have to throw on my panhard bar and LCA RB's. I just have no idea why it suddenly turned into a howling banshee D:

If it puts your mind at ease at all mines been doing it through 2 sets of rear tires and 3 summers if you count the one coming up. I beat on the car quite a bit and it hasn't gotten any worse. It seems to just be super annoying.

I think the part that bothers me most is how it seems to have a "bounce" effect in regard to sound. Letting off the throttle, the sound stops for a second, comes back for a half a second, goes away for a half second and again once more before it stops. It does the same with getting on the throttle and it only makes it in gear.

Wurp wurp wurp noise? Mine does that too, you wouldn't happen to know how audible it is outside the car would you? I feel as though it's super embarrassing, but don't know if you can hear it outside. No one's ever said anything to me about it.

I too often wonder how loud it is haha. The girlfriend has driven behind me but said she could not hear it, I wonder if it can be heard from the side of the car.

Maybe there isn't enough carrier shim & preload. If the sound changes the carrier & ring gear could be moving slightly side-to-side. I would pull the cover, check the gear oil & backlash.

Sounds like preload, set incorrectly. Did you install or shop? Nice to have a warranty..

Shop installed it, gears are toast.

I sheered off the teeth from the pinion and scattered them throughout the housing...

I am contacting Amazon to reach out to the seller to see if they can be declared defective as I barely got out of the break in period, never launched the car or slammed gears.

Yeah, second set in a month...

Looks like I will be calling my credit car company and asking for a higher cap and doing a 12-bolt or a 9". I need something that won't crumble lol
