what rear end combo should i consider?
i know its prob been asked a lot but i dont know what to do about it. im planning on doing pretty good size cam and prob some heads and dont knwo waht rear to go with. i want something strong but affordable. i would like to find one under about 1800 or so but i dont know how hard that would be. and i dont know waht kind of internals to go with. its a street car that will see the strip a few times a year and its a 6 speed with spec stage 3 clutch

I would like to hear about this also. I am looking into a very similar setup as you, and will use the car the same way. I am leaning toward a 9 inch with a soft locker or a comparable differential. The reason for this is that it is much stronger than a posi, but more drivable than a spool. Someone help us out with this.

I run a Moser 12 bolt in my 99 T/A with 4.56 gears and 33 sline axles. I went with the 12 bolt to keep the abs/tcs functional and a Eaton posi to keep it streetable. After about 15 passes, the posi has now passed away. With 60ft. times in the low 1.50's and 6500 rpm clutch dumps on et streets, the posi couldn't take it. I should have went with the 9" and a locker. Now I'm going to a spool, which will render the abs useless anyway.

I don't know if this guy still has it, but he is selling an awesome 9" with a 4.56 gear and a spool!!! That would get you moving in a hurry!

I have a Moser 12 bolt with 4.11 gears, 33 spline axels, HD Posi, TCS, ABS and AL cover. It was about 2250.00.
I am on the second RP set but that is due the the crap job Moser did setting up the original. It has lived under 100+ 5500+ rpm launces on ET Streets.

Man maybe its just me but Id rather get good at building a "shiity" rear than hang any thing ford under my car. you cant tell me that a 12 bolt cant be built tough enough. Makbe just me.

A good 12 bolt can be built stronger than a 8.8. They have the same basic size (8.8 versus 8.875) and they use the exact smae bearings in the center section. A 12 bolt has a little better geometry though.

i mean only reason i wanna get a 12 bolt is cause it comes with the stuff for tcs and abs and im sure it looks better than the 9" and i dont have to special order it, and well its not a ford rear end in a gm car, i still feel kinda weird about it. just like the look of the 12 bolt better, pretty much same design as whats in there now right? as in how it bolts up?
