noise from rearend?

Angry noise from rearend?

i have a wierd noise coming from my rearend when ever i let off the gas and let it coast but soon as i give t a little gas it goes away what do u think? i dont have new gears in the rearend but i did try and have them installed but the ***** that got the gears for me from a dealer got 2 carrier gear instead of my 3 carrier so they took everything apart and then just put all the stock stuff back do u think they could have not put enough fluid in the rearend? need help please!!!!! this is the most annoying sound ever!!

possibly....was it doing this before u took it to the dealer?

Could be they didn't do the crush sleeve right, and put the pinion too tight or too loose. Or maybe they put the wrong shims back there. Only way to know is to check it.

Most likely there is too much backlash between the ring and pinion. If I remember correctly its .010-.020??? Someone please correct that if I am wrong.

I set mine up at 6 or 7 with a good pattern. No whine.

this may sound stupid, but check your lugnut torque. i have seen it happen a few times.

classic sign of pinon bearing failure,is it like a whurring sound with the clutch in and a slight vibration?

i had this EXACT problem with my 96 z28 i used to have. check the pinion nut. mine was loose, when i tightened it up the winding went away.
