Going from 273s, what gears would be best?
Ill be upgrading from 273s soon. My question is, What gears would be best for my daily driver?
3.42 OR 3.73s?
I found a set of 373s will are the thick gears that will work on my 2 series carrier, but what would I need to make the 3.42s work?
What would you cause in my situation?
The car is an a4 currently running a 2800 stall about to move to a 3600 stall.
Thanks for your time!

I just made the change from 2.73's to 3.73's. Uh...yeah there is a diff. I can tell you that it tightened the converter up.....a lot. You will notice that you go through the gears quickly. At light throttle, the car shifts into 2nd at about 10mph. By the time that I am doing 42mph, the car is in 4th gear with the converter locked. I currently am using a set of MT ET streets as a run around tire. I romped on the gas from a dead stop on an onramp. It hazed the MT's for a moment. 60mph comes much faster. Running at 65 mph is a diff feeling as well. With the 2.73's I could let off of the gas and just coast for a little. With the 3.73's there is a noticeable drop in speed as soon as the gas is let off. With an open cutout.....things are noticeably louder too. Huh...wonder why. Before 80mph was run at about 2 grand. Now according to the Autotap, I am turning about 2700 rpm. Gas consumption calculations show that I am losing about 3 mpg. Before it was about 17-18 mpg, now looking to be about 14 mpg. That consists of about 1/2 being interstate driving, the other 1/2 being small town/city with a few WOT runs thrown into the mix.

I went with 4.10s. um yeah. I love them. 1st gear is...well non-existent on the street. if you hit it, you'll be spinning until you hit your rev limiter. havent been to track yet. but going this weekend. you definatly lose some top speed. pulls like a **** from a 35-40mph roll though. 65ish pull hard to. forget about cruising at 2k at 80 though. more like 3k. but, you have to make some sacrafices for speed in the 1/4. all depends on what you want. i love it, specially when i give bikes a run for there money.

do you guys have any complains with the 3.73s as a daily driver, i just put in 3.23s, but they were used and now they are starting to howl, if they go out im gonna upgrade the whole rear with a 12 bolt and im thinking about 3.73s, anyone think that is too much gear for a daily driver
