4.10's on an almost stock z28
I have a 98 Z28 m6 with a cat back and intake lid. Would it be a good bang for my $$ to go with 4.10's, or should I put the money elsewhere?

If its an in town commuter car.... hell yeah !! 4.10's are a lot of fun if your not putting a lot of power down. I had a client back in 93 that didnt want to go to internal engine mods and Ill tell you, it just made it a lot of fun to drive... period.
I guess youll need to ask yourself what you could do with the same amount moola that would net you the same gain in other mods. Although, not matter what, and no matter how much hp and tq you put down....... if you cant hook it up, its kinda usless other than for some good tire smoke. You might want to look into some of the more affordable suspension mods or maybe even brake upgrades ??

I drive the car a few days a week locally. I just bought it and i'm not planning on doing any MAJOR mods. Right now I'm looking into the 4.10s, some ss rims, and an eibach suspension kit. Does that sound like a good start.
About how much should I expect to pay for a shop to install 4.10s? an estimate is fine.
Thanks!

I like the sounds of your list so far..... that is probably what my list would look like in the same situation.
I would expect to spend in the 'hood of 500 to 550.... maybe 600 depending on who you go to.

I have 4.10's and I love them. All I have is a mti lid and the gears. I managed 27.6 mpg on a 160 mile roundtrip doing 75-80 w/ the ac on, a bad o2 sensor, and getting on it twice with the 4.10's. Very happy with them, wouldnt go back to 3.42's for anything (unless these break).

I have been considering the same thing. My car is also stock...except for the crappy flowmaster that came on it when I bought it. I would love to do the gears first, and then do LT's, Y pipe, and catback. Few years down the road I will do heads and cam, and at that point I'm sure I will have to drop to 3.73s. Probably to be safe I will go with a 12 bolt before I start screwing with the internals. Good luck with your decision man. I know it is a hard one to make. Some people say that 4.10s are way too much, others say that 3.73s are not enough.

I have been running my 4.10's for over a year on the street, and I ve had no problems. It all depends on how well they are set up. If I had it to do all over again, I wouldve bought an aftermarket rear. I know you arent looking to mod right now, but you probably will in the future. Im in the process of looking for one now. You wont be able to keep the stocker with those gears in one piece, if you start putting down lots of power.
