Driveshaft Out Of Balance?
So went to a local driveshaft shop to get new U-joints and yoke for my aluminum driveshaft and they said it was bent and really was helpless to be worked on. So he told me that he could make a custom steel driveshaft that would only be 3 lbs. heavier then my stocker.... I bought in.
Cut to the chase... now when mainly on the freeway with this new steel driveshaft when I punch it for say 80sih to whatever it will start to vibrate and constantly thud as speed increases. He did say he balanced it... so is this just common with steel driveshafts to make this noise, because I never had this problem with my aluminum driveshaft.

From my experience, the steel shafts are more stiff and transmit more vibration and noise. When I swapped mine, I had significantly more vibration. Now I need to figure out exactyl what's causing it--a real pain. Not sure about your clunking noise. I went so far as to have my steel shaft completely rebuilt and prefessionally balanced--didn't make much difference. Still searching for the cause of the vibration but it's not my shaft or joints.

I have a 3" steel driveshaft from Denny's (weighs 14 lbs) and I got significantly LESS vibration than with the stock aluminum shaft. Maybe my stocker was out of balance or something.

i recently had my stock Steel Shaft balanced in an effort to cure vibration at 80mph+ speeds. The place i took it to balanced the DS and replaced the rear Ujoint. Its weird but it seemed to help for a lil while, but the problem seemed to come back...i know its crazy. Im thinking it has something to do with my pinion angle since i lowered the car. You are not the only one who has this problem there is an on-going thread in this forum about people with same problem https://ls1tech.com/forums/suspension-brakes/436736-vibration-highway-come-inside.html

ya i suppose you guys could call it a vibration but honestly as speed increases in seems as if the driveshaft is gonna tear off and go straight through the floorboard
