Default 4.10's in my 10 bolt... crazy?

I have a fresh 4L60, vig 3600 and a futural cam (F4- 226/226/.575/.575)
I was running 3.73's but on my first trip to the track with the cam and fresh transmission I killed the pinion gear.
The stock 10 bolt has taken a lot of abuse over the years. It is a 98 so it has the Auburn in it. It was replaced under warranty in 2001, so it is a fairly fresh unit. I swapped rears to a zexel 3.42 for about a year. so the auburn has about 30-40,000 miles on it.

I am running on 11" ZR1s out back with Nitto 315 DR's.

I'll be running 4.10s, with an M6 car (stock internals, most of the bolt-ons), and hopefully 325 MT DRs. I expect to kill it, but I'm interested to see how long it'll last without any hard launches on it (car mainly sees street use).

Are you crazy? No.

Should you be setting aside $$ to be towed home in the future? Yes.

With an A4 car you have a better chance of surviving the 10 bolt...best of luck.

You'll love the taller gears, and the A4 will be kinder to the gears than an M6...

you don't have a cam or a stall. I don't know if I will ever hook with them.

4.10's shouldn't be a problem. There are people out here that are running low 11's, Hi 10's on 4.10's in a stock 12 Bolt.

You can't be scared to break anything though, otherwise you'll never go fast!!

Since when did 4th gens come stock with a 12 bolt? 4.10s in a 10 bolt are pretty much an accident waiting to happen (yeah some people can get by with it, but it isn't bullet proof); I certainly wouldn't risk it. Atleast you have an A4 and not an M6. Good luck.
