I have some good information on my website of a 9" installation. You may pick up some tips if you read through it.

You should replace the bearing when installing a new axleshaft. The failure may have been caused by the bearing itself and for what they cost it's cheep insurance.

replace the bearings for sure just to be safe. im going off the top of my head here, but what you have to do is-
1.) remove differential cover and drain fluid
2.) rotate axle untill you see an allen bolt in the differential
3.) remove that bolt
4.) have someone push the axle in toward the center of car
5.) remove that lil C clip that is holding the axle in, its right on the side of the differential
6.) slide axle out
I believe that should help you. Its pretty easy

if the rear isnt turning easy enuff, put a wheel back on 1 side and turn the wheel till u get the paddle or pin out. once u get that out, take tire back off, push axles in and the c clips will fall. might have to take the sensor off the backing plate with a 10mm socket to get the axle to push in enuff.

Removing axles
Turn the driveshaft until the plate bolt comes into view in the center of the spider gears.
Remove the bolt and slide the plate out.
If you have abs you must remove the wheel speed sensors on the brake backing plate or the axles will not be able to be pushed in far enough to remove the c clips.
