Make my 10 bolt last!!
Here's the deal with my rearend. It broke with a stock motor at 70xxx miles about half a year ago. I hadn't planned on keeping it so I put a new stock (f'ing $1200) 10 bolt back in. Now, I've decided to keep my car and have begun modding it and am not looking forward to another new rearend this soon after dishing out a grand for a new 10 bolt. Is there anyway I can make my 10 bolt last for a while (a while being 6-12 months)? I won't have super sticky tires and won't be doing very many hard launches. I street race mostly or jump on it on the HW. What parts can I get to make it stronger, even if only long enough for me to save up for a cam and rearend. Where can I buy these parts at? Thanks a lot

if you keep street tires on the rear they will give way before your rear breaks if it is quality. I would save the money in beefing up the 10bolt and put it towards a 12 bolt/9 in sooner rather than later. The autos are usually easier on the old 10 bolt anyways, maybe the stocker was just a crappy one, the replacement might last longer than you think, on streets.

SVT THIS, read the article on our board about this past weekend of 10-bolt carnage. # of us need new rears. If you wanna build it to last just take it easy on the 10-bolt for 6-12 months & buy a 12-bolt. If you waste even more money on a 10-bolt, you'll probably kick yourself in the *** for it later.

OK how about this........ What if your car is your daily driver and your can't afford the 2000+ grand on a 12 bolt or Moser and you need to have it back on the road ASAP. What would you do? This is the situation I am in right now. I don't have a credit card to throw it on and a bank won't give me a small loan either WHAT DO YOU DO? AND WHAT PART WOULD YOU GET?

the best way to make a 10 bolt last is take it out and put it in the attic, it shouldnt break up there.
before i got my ls1 i use to count who broke more rears at the track
mach 1s and cobras vs f-bodies.

Usually the axles break first. A good set of Moser forged ones are only about $250. I good Truetrac posi is $365 from summit. Good gears are about $150-200. Reinforced alum cover is $130. That is about as strong as you can make one. That is what I have done to mine and it has survived about 15 mid 11 sec passes in a M6 car before the crappy zexel torsion posi went out.
Also broke a tooth off a richmond ring gear.
Haven't run on the Truetrac yet but I don't plan many trips to the track before I get my new engine in at which time I am getting a Dana 60. The only reason I put money in the 10 bolt was cause I can install all the parts myself. If you add in labor you will quickly eclipse the cost of a good rear...
