We have a problem new gears
Ok so i just changed my gears in the 10 bolt everything went pretty smooth. Now i took it our today to heat cycle the gears and it drove smooth with no problem, but when i take my foot off the gas it gives a terrible noise. It's not a whine, its more of a like grind/rub or something. Now it only does it when i am coasting as soon as i give it gas again it goes away. Any and all help please. I am lost here.

Could be the backlash isn't set right... I wouldn't drive it anymore until you figure it out. Check the fluid in the rear and make sure you don't have any metal shavings.

Just curious...when you checked for pattern....did you check both the drive side and the coast side of the gear set?
As long as your backlash is in spec, and your patterns on both sides are close, and your pinion pre-load is in spec, you shouldnt see abonormal noises. The closer you get everything, the quieter/smoother its going to be.
Also...if you are having "trouble" with your dial indicator, get rid of it. Its a precision measuring tool...and you are measuring stuff below .010" usually... You need something that is going to give you accurate results, because your window on backlash probably isnt big enough for a sloppy tool.
