MAKE SURE!!! when you take off the C-clip you put it back on the same way!! The C-clip has a tab in the middle that points out to one side it has to go back the same way not 180*....and make sure to torque it to specs!!
I know this b/c i f'd up my rear install and didn't realize it till i started smelling my bearings melting 2hrs from home.

Dont drag the axle shaft on the seal surface when you are inserting the axle into the axle tube. This will keep you from having premature seal leaks...
And put some grease on the seal lip spring. It keeps it in place.

Can you explain this too me more in depth? I've been into a number of these axles and never ever noticed any tab on the C-clips. Are you maybe talking about the cross pin (or puck in the case of the torsens)? All the C-clips I've ever seen were the same on both sides, and they rotate inside the diff so I don't see any reason to put them back in the same position they came out of.

Mine was making a clanking sound, a ticking sound, and a rotational grinding sound. All from the passenger rear. It ended up being a frozen axle bearing. The bearing was stuck in place and literally shaved the axle shaft where it was sitting. I had a ton of super fine shavings on the differential plug but no damage to the gears.
I got a quote from the dealer of:
$330 for a new axle with exiter ring
$90 for new axle bearing
$35 for new axle seal
$455 in total!
So I called up Scott at drivelinesolutions.com and he hooked me up with a barely used axle shaft without exiter ring (removed mine in literally 3 seconds using a pair of 2ft pry bars), 2 new Spicer bearings and 2 new axle seals for a grand total including shipping of:
$110
Scott was super cool and he got the stuff out really quick. I would HIGHLY recommend working with him if you need to get parts or advice.
I got the new passenger shaft installed, and the new bearing and seal on the drivers side and picked the car up today. It drives like brand new. So much less noise and it rides like a dream.
