Default 3.23's to 3.42's?

i have a 94Z A4 i was wondering if you guys think i should jump to 3.42's instead of 3.73's. see cause i don't really want to spend a fortune on 3.73's. i'm kinda broke. i can get some 3.42's real cheap for about 50 bucks locally off of an M6 car. and i know they will last a long time cause they are OEM GM. what do you guys think.

I just swapped in a 3:42 rear, replacing my 3:23's and Its great. If you can get it for a good price why not only takes about a half a day to install.

alot of people that i talk to would prefer the 3.42's over the 3.73's. cause a buddy of mine who is a technition can do the swap for 100 bucks. and i can get the gears real cheap. i'm still debating.

i would think that for the money and time u will spend to get them in ur car the differance will be minimal. im gonna go with 3.73s, just need too decide on what brand.

I just installed 3.73 in my car and what a difference it makes from 2.73.I was scared to get them because of highway use.It feels great.I cant wait to break them in so I could punch it.I went with motive from New era performance.$159.95 I think.I wanted the gears new because I was worried about gear whine.I was looking for 3.42 but could not find them for a good price.3.42 and 3.73 are almost the same.I am not dissapointed with the choice I made

anyone have some pros and cons before i do my gear change?

fyi- i got GM 3.73 upgrading from 3.23. many say they will be louder, rev higher, lose topend, make my engine work harder, waste lots more gas, feel like im going faster (ie: im going 70 feels like im going 100) ...etc

i like driving highway..dont mind too much on gas loss. but i dont want any of the others mentioned above?:help:

Here are my calculations for approximate RPM @ 75 MPH A4 with standard diameter tires:

3.23 - 2227
3.42 - 2358
3.73 - 2572
3.90 - 2689
4.10 - 2827

go only with 3.73's form 3.23's. 3.42 are a total waste of time and money from 3.23. 3.73 are the magic # for these cars.

i have a *NEW* set of GM 3.73 gears with SLP gear rebuild kit and SLP rear diff cover ,which keeps gears 80% cooler for $420 shipped? OBO
