Default bout to get a 9 inch

thinking about it...hear alot of bad from the 12 bolt...hear about more options for the 9 inch as far as gears go...but every1 i talk to around here that deals with rear ends are telling me its rediculous to get a 9 inch for 2500 bux...they tell me this shop or that shop will do it for 1500 or 1200?

anyways where do you guys recommend getting a 9 inch from? or do yall think a 12 bolt is better?
what options are available and what do yall reccomend...
i am planning on going stock style suspension...and im going to want a custom d/s with it to hold say 1000 hp and mate to my 4l60-e
so yall guys tell me what i need to do

o yeah...and i wanna be able to run my damn salad shooters, so i dont think i can go more than 1 inch narrower? if that
what is the advantage of narrowing it?

If you want to do this on the cheap it can be done for about $1500. You can get the housing and the axles from Moser for about $1k and then pick up a center section from ebay or wherever for $500ish. A friend of mine did thisin his 10sec Camaro and never had any issues drag racing for a year.

you dont need a welder, the rear/axle kit comes with everything to get the rear in the car, you just need a third member. I myself would never run an old third member to many people breaking them, I bought an rear/axle kit from them there center section and a spool, I got richmond gears and put everything together myself.

Exactly, the housing is still a direct bolt in, no welding needed. Then it's up to you to find the center chunk. Even paying full price for a "new" one will be less $2500 total.

No. The Moser 9 inch housing/axle package that I sell for $1,000.00 shipped has the torque arm bracket for our cars as part of their kit. It is designed from Moser to fit our cars, it did not come from Ford that way. Bob

^yea what Bob said... Like I said in my original post, it's $1k for the Moser "bolt in" housing and axles.

As fas as ABS goes, well you "can" make 3 chan ABS work with a 9" but you'll have to fab up a bracket for the sensor and source a correctly toothed wheel to mount on the drive shaft yoke.

Or you can pony up and lay down the $$$ for a 3 chan 12 bolt, or find a deal on a used in the for sale section like I did. Even if you find a deal on a used 4 chan 12 bolt, it'll cost about $150 to have it coverted to 3 chan.

Moser and Strange offer 12 bolts with ABS, or with ABS and TCS. The nine inch rears can only be had with ABS/TCS, ABS only is not an option. There is a thread on here on how to make ABS only work on the nine inch rears.
I sell a lot of nine inch rears to people who do have ABS, and they just order the rear and disconnect the ABS. Personally, I don't like ABS, I prefer controlling the brakes myself. Bob

Not to mention if you can't have ABS with a 9, you could remove the ABS pump and components if you're technically proficient right?
So I could piece together a 9" and assemble it myself for considerably less than the average $2300-2500? I didn't see the housing and axles on your site separately.

Here is our Moser housing/axle package. You didn't miss seeing it before, I just added it to my website! Thanks for inquiring. Bob
