Many feel it is way overkill plus it weighs in at ~25 more than the 9". Also it appears that many have a hard time making them run quiet. But they are very good durable rear ends from what I have read.

We are a sponsor so I edited back. Dana 60 is a bit overkill for a street car. Gear noise would depend on the brand of gear used. If you spend a little moremoney for an OEM Dana Gear you should not have noise problems

well from what i have learned about them they are only a little heavier than a 9 if you goin to do a spool with both and 35s push a 9 takes 13% more to turn then most other rears including the dana

I don't believe it is 13% more power to turn. They rate them from engine to rwhp and calculate the loss, The dana is more efficient than the 12 bolt and the 12 bolt is more efficient than the 9", it has to do with the pinion placement I believe.

I personally wanted to get the s60, but being as new as it is I wanted to see how track proven it was, if the only down side is it has a bit more gear noise, without increased gear wear I still may consider it myself, number one reason being I plan to run a street type gear, not pro gear and I know that a 9 3/4" ring gear can take a serious beating.

I did a poll a while back and a high percent of people chose the 9" over the S60.

But the S60 is also less expensive so I still may go with it, only down side is you have to run factory style torque arms, where the newer fabricated 9" that some people are making move the torque arm in closer so you don't have as much clearance issues with torque arms hitting the trans tunnel when you lower it.

The midwest chassis >> sponsor and moser fab 9 make these styles with more clearance.

Personally I would love a 9" style fabricated housing with dana 60 gears, unfortunately no one makes it

Also the 9" has way more gear options.

Ive had an s60 in my daily driver for a year now. There is slight gear noise, nothing too bad tho. I love it. Only problem I have encountered is with my torque arm clearance. I have a Spohn torque arm with ds loop and it bangs my floor when it torques. Ive posted and it seems to be a common problem with s60's and 9in's. I didn't have a problem until I got my transmission rebuilt but I think it started now because it shifts harder. My friend has the same torque arm on his 12bolt and has no problems. People have said it can be fixed with a hammer. I don't want to but I'm probably going to do it soon. Other than that i highly recommend the s60.

I run an adjustable UMI T/A and drive shaft loop with no problems on my S60 and I'm even lowered 1/2" in the rear. I'm not sure about the Spohn unit though .. might want to try and loosen the T/A bolts and see if you can find more clearnace (wedge the components if you have to) then re-torque.

Default S60

Ordered mine last week. 3 Channel, True Trac using my caliper mounts 35 spline axles = $2049 + shipping.

Not a bad price. + I do not want anything f - - d R & D'd on my GM ride.

Just personal preference.
