can be done but you are better off in the long run just buying a prefabed unit. The torque arm mount is what does you in on the f-body.
It ends up being cheaper and looks a whole lot better to just buy a moser case and axles. Around $1000. then you can use a thrird member you might allready have laying around.

Build Your Own
I decided to build my rearend from a bare 9" housing...because I can weld and I had a few unique requests. First, I wanted what is called a "small web" 9" housing. These are typically a little lighter because the housing area is smaller and a little lighter duty. In addition, they are hard to find as they haven't been manufactured since the 50's. Secondly, I did not want "fabricated" mounts on my rearend...I wanted factory "stamped" type mounts. Thirdly, I wanted to use an LPW cast aluminum inspection cover for a "TRACK-9"...a little known about part. Lastly, I bought a bare 3rd gen housing for $50 and cut off all the factory brackets. Not that tough of a job.
Some may ask "WHY?". I have had my car since 1994...built the rearend back in '98-'99 time frame. The LS1 cars weren't being modded yet and the LT1's still ruled. I was doing some serious street racing and with the above housing and factory mounts and LPW inspection/rear-end cover. The rearend could be built in such a way that one could easily fool a casual glancer into assuming the rearend was still a factory 10-bolt. As all you know, if a car still has the 10 bolt, it probably isn't too fast. This is first thing people would look at. The TRACK-9 LPW cover is made for a 9" housing with a removable inspection cover...and it looks just like all the LPW covers...and has 10-bolts to boot. The small web housing doesn't have the immediately obvious "outline" of a 9" ford. So, the trick worked most of the time...unless someone caught a glance at the 3rd member from the side. Also, I used a custom torque arm mount...but it was very similar to a Currie design.
Anyway, the rearend is still in the car nearly 10 years later...always a good conversation piece. As far as strength, it has lived just fine behind 3 fairly strong LT1's currently running mid-9's at full weight of 3650#.
It just needs a little clean-up and probably a fluid change would be nice
Regards,
Ronald

im doin a 9" right now. i just ordered the CE-7009 from currie. its their torque arm mount. aside from figuring out how to use the factory backing plates i dont think this will be that hard to do.
