Default 10 bolt groaning while turning

The rear end on my car makes a groaning/low pitched whine when turning left or right, going backwards or fowards at low speeds. It doesn't whine, or make any strange noises while the car is driving at highway speeds, or in the city. Suggestions?

Mine only makes noise when I'm turning at low MPH. It doesn't do make any noise, unless I'm turning. I think I have the auburn diff as well.

maybe the axle bearings are going bad or even the carrier bearings. Could also be lack of fluid.

Check the ovious before getting to far into it.

After I install my LS6 manifold and new knock sensors tomorrow, I'll be changing the fluid.

My buddy seems to think it's axle bearings too.

I have the zextel diff and when mine started to make that noise it turned out to be the heilcal gears in the diff. I had it rebuilt and waiting to purchase my 9 inch now.

I'm not entirely worried about it. Granted I just bought the car, I'm looking for a 3.42 rear end anyway.

SAounds like a worn positraction. Try adding a lsd additive to see if it calms down.

Rear is going out mine did that like a ratcheting clunk around turns finally it just ate the big one. Replaced it with a used 10 bolt with 3:42's, problem solved.

Jeff
Is it wise to also change the positrac clutches when doing a gear change?
