SEMA Review: The Camaro Black Camaro Black
General Motors used the 2008 SEMA Show to display the eagerly awaited 2010 Camaro, and to also show off some of the innovations and upgrades available on the upcoming Camaro. The Camaro Black is a sinister looking “sights and sounds” package, with black trim from front to back and top to bottom, with a few exceptions like the deep red glowing halo rings around the HID headlights.
The Exterior
Chevrolet Accessories has provided the body treatment, with a full lower fascia package and a rear diffuser. Tinting has been added all around as RS-style tail lights have been tinted black, along with the side and rear windows. The stock hood is finished in a matte black, as is the rear spoiler (borrowed from the SS models), and the 21” Chevy Accessories wheels are carry a black chrome finish.
The Interior
GM did a great job of bringing the package together by using the same colors throughout, including the red lighting, as the instruments and foot wells have the same eerie red glow. Like the wheels, all of the typically chrome components inside the car have been refinished in black chrome. Additional black accents are everywhere, from the radio face to the door handles to the steering wheel, and the black leather with gray stitching on the steering wheel is mirrored through the leather seats. The finish touch to the interior of the Camaro Black is a greatly improved Boston Acoustics stereo package, with upgraded amplifiers and speakers all around.
The Drivetrain
The only performance modification made to this evil looking concept is the addition of a Brembo 4-wheel disc brake package. General Motors selected a base model on which to design the Camaro Black, so it is equipped with the 3.6L direct injection V6, which offers 300 horsepower, only 15 less ponies than the 2010 Mustang GT, and that brings up an interesting question. Will the fact that the Ford Mustang GT “only” has 315hp help to boost sales of the V6 2010 Camaro, especially to those considering a Mustang GT?

honestly, I think that Ford made a mistake not giving the 2010 Mustang more power, especially considering that the BASE Camaro has 300hp. I think that the curb weight for the Camaro is around 3700lbs, and the official ford esitmate for the 2010 GT is a shade under 3600lbs, so the Mustang is only a bit lighter...

On paper, I dont see how much the 2010 Mustang is going to have much to say...the saving grace for the Mustang guys may be the Ford Racing supercharger for the GT, but stock for stock, I dont see how the GT could compare to the SS. I believe that the MSRP of the SS is around 31,000, where the Mustang GT is in the 28,000 range, so the Mustang could take the bargain racer approach, but considering the fact that you can get (once the markups are done with) a 300hp V6 camaro for 22,000...the little bit of weight is fairly easy to ignore for a 6,000 difference in price, for what may be similar performance.
